One of our favorite subjects!
We love this product. As a stand alone, it is enjoyable purely for reading great stories together wth your child(ren). I have a child that also loves to draw; when we finish each lesson, we both sketch an illustration from the selected story from the passage that we read (which may require a Google search). I let my child pick the illustration and I will typically modify the copywork sentence to match the artwork. Beatrix Potter was a little rough at times with the British references and older English language usage, but drawing always made it come to life for us. Lessons are simple to follow, require no prep work other than having the reading passages available, and I find that all the other kids typically circle around so they can hear the stories too. :)

Bigger is better
I bought the smaller and combined levels 1 and 2 book size and its heavy. Doesn't stay open. Ive threatened to cut it apart. This level 3 is the size of a sheet of paper. So much easier to use. I usually copy the copy work by hand in the summer into a copybook so my son doesn't have to balance the big book. At level 3 the copy work gets a bit bigger so I'm glad to just let him copy it right out himself this time. I love that level 3 adds prepared dictation and diagramming of sentences. Level 3 also comes with the answers to the diagramming which i wish were included in level 2. The poems and art appreciation included were a big selling point for me. I wanted to include these in my homeschool but didn't want another subject in our day. I like the total package.

We have loved Level 2, so I'll be finishing it through the summer, ready to move into Level 3. I think we'll be well prepared for parsing (diagramming) as we are acquiring a solid understanding of parts of speech. Yay!

I love Reading Lessons Through Literature by the same author, so I'm hoping for a similar approach to grammar and writing. Simple and to the point, no busywork, and based on good books. What more could you ask for?

I love levels 1 and 2.

I am looking for a Charlotte Mason style English curriculum that is more systematic and complete than some I have used in the past. I am hoping this one will meet my expectations.
