The reader becomes immersed in the chapters
The book is well written and immerses the reader rapidly. The wording is rich, yet easily understood, allowing the student to gain insights and a clear understanding of historical events. Most importantly is the true enjoyment of reading such a succinct and lively text.

Awesome book
This book is as good as the last one. The type is easy to read, very informative and the color pictures add to the overall enjoyment of reading this. I perused through the section of time my of life. Just in that section I read about things I had heard of, but did not know all the facts or goings on of the issues. This filled in many of the spaces. It is a wonderful book for world History, american history or just to read for informative reasons. Well worth the money. I would prefer a activity book to hold and go through, but I am sure the cost would be more, so the CD is ok, but not as easy to use as a book would be.

Great supplement to history
I have all 4 volumes of Mystery of History and we use them in addition to our other more focused materials. For instance, this year we are studying US History using the Story of US, a secular series used by Sonlight. It's been so helpful to have this Christian point of view to filter in to the lessons...adding yet another angle and facet to our learning.

Independent Learners, Step Right Up!
My 12 year old daughter has been studying through this text for 7th grade history and will continue for 8th grade. We like the clarity, chronology, and captivating writing. It is a fresh take on world events written clearly and concisely. We like the lessons on world-changing people that are interspersed with the Christ-centered explanation of "big events".

My daughter found the student guide overwhelming because of all the directions for multiple levels of students. We simply adjusted to a format where I presented her with only the information she needed. I would prefer each lesson and it's corresponding activities to stand on its own, however, I wholeheartedly recommend MOH-IV for a middle school student working to become a more independent learner.

It's just what I wanted
I have done Sunlight and Winter Promise and liked those but now I was looking for something a little easier to use. I feel like i can just use the book and choose a couple of activities here and there and it is complete. It is easy for my lifestyle right now to not have to gather a lot of extra things.

We're using Story of the World 4 in our homeschool and I wanted more information about modern history that my children could use for research and writing assignments. This book looks packed with info and should serve the purpose well.

We used MOH 3 last year and LOVED it. We've tried other history programs but will continue with this one. Only three days of lessons/reading each week so it's easy to go on bunny trails and dig deeper into a person or topic. Her writing style is conversational. My 7th, 8th and 9th grade children love it. So do I!

Sheila J on Aug 31, 2017
I would never buy this again. It jumps from subject to subject. It loses the picture of where you are in history. It calls "Catholic" "Christian" or it seems to from time to time. Mostly religious history book. The first chapters are excellent... Perspective is lost around 9th century...
Lance K on Aug 27, 2017
We have been using Mystery of History for 3 years and my boys really like the way the stories of history are presented. I enjoy how it ties in biblical history at the same time.
Pamela L on Aug 25, 2017
We used Mystery of History for the first time last year with Volume 3. We all loved it so much, and have really retained the information from it and talked about it as our minds make connections from what we learned through the book to what we see, read and hear in every day life. The Christian perspective was very fair, I felt, and the style was very engaging, and it helped the kids to remember some of the important things that happened by knowing personal details about what was going on.
Charlotte T on Aug 17, 2017
loved the first 3 volumes

Mystery of History is one of our favorite history programs, and we are looking forward to continuing and completing the series with volume 4.
Laina E on Aug 10, 2017
We absolutely love this series of history books. Our son used it for the first time this past year, and has learned more than he ever did with our previous curriculum!!
I really appreciate the fact that the author - Linda Hobar - ties ALL of history together - Biblical and secular, and in a time-line fashion, which makes it so much more user friendly than the other curriculum we had been using. I also appreciate the fact that Linda includes the Gospel in her books!
Tammy O on Aug 10, 2017
Used the previous 3 volumes and love this series.

I plan to use MOH Vol. 3 & 4 for a credit in world history for my high school students. We have used MOH 1, 2, and 3 in the past and my children love the series.
Krista H on Apr 10, 2017
I have used the Mystery of History for all 4 of my boys, and we love them! Sadly, this volume was not completed when my 2 older boys needed it, so we had to use something else, which they did not like at all. Now my third is ready for his fourth year of World History, and we are eager to receive this.

What year was the volume 4 published?
A shopper on May 7, 2018
BEST ANSWER: It was published in 2014 (I bought mine in 2016).
Has anyone used this vol with a 5th grader (11yo)? I thought I had read somewhere that it was better to wait and use this vol with an older child.
A shopper on Sep 17, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I have used vol 1 and vol 2 with elementary students all the way up to high school students. I don't see any reason you can not use it with an 11 year old. When i used it with younger students I always read it to them. They have suggestions for younger students, middle school students and high school students. They also have mp3's that students can listen to by themselves.

Has anyone tried to use the cd-rom and it ask for a password?
Amy G on Aug 30, 2016
BEST ANSWER: No, I have never had the CD-Rom ask for a password. That seems a little odd. I used the CD to print out a lot of the materials. We even had the audio read the book to the kids at one point. but I do not recall any request for a password.
