My elder son age 11 has joined the chess team His little brother age 6 now wants to learn chess like his big brother The problem is chess is a bit complex for him at this age I thought Tic Tac Chec would be a great alternative for him We also travel frequently and this small product (with carrying case included) would be easy to take on the go My younger son (although not my elder son who prefers the

This is an enjoyable and fast-paced game! My husband and I seldom take the time to play a "real" game of chess which can be quite lengthy And for me real chess has a large investment of emotional energy as it builds up and up It seems to me that in traditional chess by the time one is the victor and the other is left somewhat dismayed there is seldom time to challenge the other again and neither of us are feeling very edified These factors make me hesitant to play traditional chess But THIS game allows some of the strategy of chess in a very condensed and fun format It truly is a combination of chess movement by the pieces and something akin to Connect Four or tic-tac-toe The length of our games has varied from just a minute or so to perhaps 20 minutes when we were really attempting to out-strategize each other The capturing of pieces is not as large an element as it might seem since they are handed right back to you and you may choose to place them back on the board where you like The game is a bit difficult to describe but easy to learn Our four year old daughter has enjoyed watching us play and has participated "helping" us move our pieces and collaborating with one parent or the other As she does so she is learning the various moves that the pieces can make without being overwhelmed by the sheer volume that would be present on a traditional chess board and without causing frustration for us if she disrupts the pieces somewhat The number of games which can be played in a relatively short time also takes some of the emphasis off of "winning" and "losing " which at this age seems to be an inordinately big deal I can highly recommend this simple inexpensive game
