Speedy Spanish Level 2 Book and Audio Set

Focusing on conversational Spanish, Speedy Spanish emphasizes words, phrases, and sentences prior to introducing grammar. This is a wonderful way to encourage elementary to middle school students to converse with neighbors or classmates whose primary language is Spanish, or use it to lay a foundation for upper-level foreign language studies!

Currently, there are two levels (years) available. Written at a 3rd grade level, Level 1 teaches 500 vocabulary words including numbers 1-10, months of the year, seasons, foods, and other everyday words. Level 2, written at a 4th grade level, reviews Level 1 vocabulary before teaching 500 additional vocabulary words covering foods, body parts or common health concerns, and other words typically used in conversation. Integral to both levels are memorization of Bible verses and songs in Spanish, as well as traditional church expressions or references.

Each Student Book provides 30 lessons plus 6 reviews (total of 36 lessons). An introduction letter provides helpful information and a suggested 5-day schedule: Monday (Part 1) emphasizes vocabulary. Tuesday (Part 2) involves sentence practice. Students read and listen to practice sentences in Spanish. Wednesday (Part 3) has matching exercises for Spanish words and sentences with their English translations. Thursday (Part 4) includes memorization of Bible verses and songs in Spanish. Bible Word Match activities are also included to enrich vocabulary. Friday (Part 5) is a review day, where students play a vocabulary flash card game using the included flashcards. Worth mentioning, the introduction letter references cassettes (rather than Audio CDs). No answers are included. The Student Books are consumable and non-reproducible.

Each level offers a set of eight Audio CDs that narrate the entire content of the Student Book lessons. Audio CDs help students learn correct pronunciation, correct written work, and learn Bible verses and songs. Stops and a guide sheet are included that indicate where each lesson begins and ends. If you chose to use the Audio CDs, the program is self-teaching and self-correcting. If you decide to use the program without the audio component, it would be helpful to have a fluent Spanish teacher available to assist with correct pronunciation. The optional Teacher’s Guide offers more group focused activities, teaching support and reduced student pages with answers. Grammar hints, game ideas, Spanish labels and maps are a sampling of the additional support.

Available for each level, the Tests and Answer Key, is recommended for Jr. High and High School students using the program. It includes five tests with answers. Not reproducible.

Sing-A-Long Spanish contains the English and Spanish Bible songs from both levels. These are the same songs included in the individual level audio CDs.

Speedy Spanish has recently transitioned to a new publisher: Christian Light Education. Updates to the Teacher Guide are in progress. Level 1 is expected in Fall 2022. According to the publisher, “slight revisions” are planned for the rest of the series. Availability dates for the revised editions is currently unknown.
