Category Description for Spanish for Children:

"Learn more than how to order a taco" with this great program. The Primers are divided into 32 weekly chapters, including 5 review chapters. Each lesson introduces new vocabulary words alongside a Spanish concept, starting with verbs and nouns in the first unit and moving on to number, gender, adjectives, pronouns, verb conjugations, and more. The lessons are short (about 4 pages each), plus weekly worksheets and quizzes. Lessons begin with Spanish phrases, a conversation, a chant (to aid memorization of grammar and vocabulary) and a vocabulary list. Then the lesson discusses the concept being taught, followed by short exercises and a quiz. Each level teaches 290 of the most commonly used vocabulary words in an engaging, conversational way. A helpful glossary is included in the back of the primer.

The pronunciation CD is no longer included with the text, but a complete MP3 file of all pronunciations can be downloaded at the publisher's website.

The Answer Key is a copy of the worksheet and quizzes in the Primer with the answers filled in (this book does not include every page from the Primer - only those with answers).

If the instructor is not familiar with Spanish, consider the DVD and Chant CD set, which features 4 DVDs with the author teaching the lesson to her students. Each lesson (approx. 15 min each) corresponds to the weekly chapter in the Primer, and text from the book appears on screen as the lesson is presented so you can follow along. The students chant their weekly grammar work, and vocabulary and visual images appear which correspond with the words. The audio chant CD includes grammar chart chants and complete vocabulary.

Picking up where Primer A left off, Primer B emphasizes grammar and the parts of speech as tools for understanding and speaking Spanish. Also included are expanded dialogs, stories, songs, and chants. Primer B contains 32 weekly chapters, including 6 review chapters and an end-of-book review. The text teaches 290 commonly used vocabulary words, plus a review of vocabulary from Primer A. Students will continue mastering grammatical concepts, such as verb conjugation, tense, and noun gender. Weekly worksheets and quizzes are included, and students will enjoy sharpening their Spanish with dialogs, stories, and a puzzle that involves searching for treasure in Mayan ruins.

We used Latin for Children by this company and it was great. The chant method is very effective. They also insert humor along the way. I found it very intriguing what humor does to the brain. It totally changes their attitude toward the subject matter in an amazing and powerful way. The DVD lectures are super helpful. I wouldn't buy any foreign language course that didn't offer lectures by a bilingual speaker.

We were looking at this and the Breaking the Spanish Barrier curriculum, which also suggested that it was appropriate for the 6th grade. This one looked much more friendly for a student in 6th grade with no experience with Spanish - the other is much more geared toward the high school student, or someone with some basic Spanish skills. We will start here and move to the other after we get some exposure.

My daughter has been asking to learn Spanish. We have both loved using Classical Academic Press for Latin and immediately chose this series for Spanish. These series are engaging, well thought out, and excellently taught.

I am hoping Spanish for Children A helps my daughter and gives her a head start in learning Spanish for once she begins high school.

I like the different activities and how the curriculum explains the language.

Based off of what I hope my children will gain from our Spanish classes this school year, this curriculum came highly recommended from a curriculum specialist at RRC. I am giving it a try. The videos seem to be a great addition.

I am too busy to teach my children Spanish myself. This seems like a reasonable alternative where the time pressure is eliminated from my plate. I really like the DVD lessons so I can get more done.

I was looking for a complete Spanish program I can use with multiple children at different levels. Going to give it a try!

I'm planning to use Primer A and Primer B as my teen's Spanish 1 this year. It looks engaging, easy to learn and easy to check/correct. My other child did a different online Spanish program and it was very difficult for me to help him with it. This looks easy to use with good explanations. I also like the samples I've seen of the teacher teaching the lessons. She is upbeat and fun, but not too silly. I enjoy listening to her and she's easy to understand.

better price than classical academic press, for the same dvd package<br />taught from a grammatical standpoint, not conversational

I needed something that taught the grammar of Spanish in a little more depth to supplement our Rosetta Stone Homeschool program.

So far we have enjoyed this Spanish program because of the DVD and CD's. We are about halfway through and my only complaint is that in the workbook its hard to quickly identify the chapter for each page. The videos are helpful and instructive and the CD for practicing the vocabulary is in our car so we can listen to it regularly while driving around. I think it is better for older children because the workbook is reading heavy.

I already have the Latin program by the same company (Classical Academia Press). It is simple to understand and very homeschool friendly.

Best way for a child to learn Spanish!
We have tried other Spanish curriculum and foreign language learning programs and they fell short. This curriculum has hit every mark. Our 10 year old daughter loves it, is learning Spanish, and no longer stresses over conjugation. This is the best way for a child to learn Spanish!

Very good program!
I used this program with 2 of my daughters, grades 5 and 7. I thought the program was very well laid out. The videos were good and well worth the money. It covered a lot of Spanish compared to what my son learned in a high school program, but my girls didn't find it difficult. My only complaint was that it did not have enough practice, especially for older children. Overall, I felt it was a great program.

Easy pace
This Spanish program goes at a nice easy pace, adding just a little bit more each week. My child doesn't even notice that he's getting the mechanics and grammar. And the set-up for each chapter is the same, making it an easy rhythm to get into. The video that goes with the set is an absolute blessing for parents who have no Spanish in their background.

So well taught
As a native speaker with relucant - none Spanish speaking children, my children ages 10-2 years old are loving it. They always want to watch the dvd and the older 2 use the workbooks.

I would return this product if I could. I love their Latin program, but this was very different. Very random in the teach process. I took Spanish in high school and had a great teacher for grammar and conjugation. The teacher in the video almost mocks the Spanish Language. The beginning lessons are vet confusing.

So far so good
My 12 year old daughter has been using this Spanish curriculum completely on her own and looks forward to each lesson. Her comments, "During the lesson the teacher (on the DVD) makes learning and remembering very easy and fun. The chant part of the lesson is my favorite. It is so easy to memorize that most of the time I forget it is even part of my school." She is on lesson 4 of Book 1. Previously, for my older children, I used Rosetta Stone Spanish. We had so many problems getting it to work on our computer and trying to set up separate student lesson plans. That was years ago and maybe those "bugs" have been fixed but based on our experience with Rosetta I did not trust to repurchase. So far I am very happy with the Spanish for Children Spanish program.
