Category Description for Primary Math Intensive Practice U.S. Edition
This series follows the same scope and sequence as the Primary Mathematics U.S. Edition texts, but it is broken into semesters like the original Singapore edition texts. Now you can have twice as much practice for each semester (compared to Primary Math Extra Practice), but you must purchase both books if you want to supplement an entire level. Approximately 120 pgs, black and white, consumable. ~ Anh

Fabulous
Absolutely love this! An absolute must! If you only want to get one book for practice, I would suggest this one. The child has to use the skills that he’s learned to figure out each problem. It really is a lot of fun for both the teacher and the student. Highly suggest!

Great Practice for Advanced Student
This is great extra practice if your student has an easy time with the regular workbook. Much more challenging then the workbook. My son who loves math really enjoyed the challenge. I would not use for a student that just needs reinforcement of the lesson.

I have used both Saxon and Singapore for first grade math and much prefer Singapore although we will continue doing some parts of Saxon However we did find the Singapore textbook and workbook need to be supplemented with extra problems about halfway through (when students are starting to do addition with numbers up to 20) The Extra Practice problems are good; there are just not enough of them That's why I ordered the intensive practice books also I would not recommend the Challenging Word Problems books which I feel are misnamed - at least at the 1 level They are wordy but not challenging For the most part the student need not read the problem If he sees a 7 and a 2 in the section on addition he knows the answer is 9 and in the subtraction section 5 without reading the problem In other words they aren't really word problems just arithmetic drills with references to kids' names and papayas tops and other countable objects

more practice, especially if i help my child too much on the text book problems. This way he can still do some without me.

It was recommended by a trusted friend who has had success with this series and my daughter did well with the kindergarten level. I also liked what I saw in the video.

I love Singpore Math, but I find that my son needs more practice of past concepts (spiral like Saxon, but my kids do not like Saxon). Will this book work for this type of practice? Or is there another one in the series that would work for more of a spiral review? Thanks

BEST ANSWER: We started with early bird and then finished 1b that same school year. I purchased the intensive practice as a review before we jumped into 1B the next year. It was a good recap for us. Each topic provides several questions that review an exercise. There are word problems as well as a challenging practice section. There is also a midyear review at end of intensive practice book as well as more challenging problems. The answers are included at the back of book. It is not a duplicate of the problems in the workbook. I think that the Intensive Workbook will provide you the extra practice that you are looking for as well as expand those exercises with the challenge problems. Challenge problems are great to expand thinking but sometimes can be frustrating, we do them for fun on Fridays. If my son needs help we do them together. If you are looking for something else my friend uses the challenging word problems, but I have not used that yet.

This Intensive Practice will give you more practice chapter per chapter in correspondence with the Level 1 Singapore book. You may also use it with another program, but it will not give you a "spiral" kind of review. The topics are separated by chapters in concordance with those of the main text of Level 1. If you are comfortable teaching Singapore, though, and use another main program, it is a good extra practice with some challenging problems at the end of each topic.

My daughter finished 1a and I am using this book to review the concepts taught in 1a before moving on to 1b. I like how the intensive practice includes story problems and challenge problems. A lot of it she can do independently, but it is good review for her. I will have her do 1b intensive after she finishes 1b also.

You could use it for that type of practice. There is one review section for every topic in the book. I find that the questions are more detailed and require more thinking so I can tell whether or not my child truly understands what is going on.
