Category Description for Saxon K-3 Program:

The Teacher's Manual contains the actual lesson plans and information vital to the effective presentation of math concepts. The consumable Meeting Books are used during the teacher-student "meeting" in which concepts are introduced, demonstrated and practiced. If teaching more than one student at the same level, you will only need one meeting book. Consumable Student Workbooks are used in grades 1-3 only and contain student materials, flash cards and practice pages. The Math K Home Study Kit contains teacher edition and meeting book. Math 1, 2, and 3 kits contain teacher edition, meeting book, and a set of 2 workbooks. Manipulatives are a vital, integral part of the program; these are not included in the Home Study Kits, but are available through us also.

Category Description for Saxon Math:

Students like Saxon because they feel successful in math instead of overwhelmed.

The most popular homeschooling math program hands down! Highly recommended by both Mary Pride and Cathy Duffy, Saxon Math also wins our award for the "Most Requested Text." Saxon math is a "user-friendly" math program - even for Algebra, Trigonometry, Calculus and other usually difficult math topics. Learning is incremental and each new concept is continuously reviewed, so the learning has time to "sink in" instead of being forgotten when the next topic is presented. Higher scores on standardized tests and increased enrollments in upper-level math and science classes have resulted where Saxon has been used in public schools. Students like Saxon because they feel successful in math instead of overwhelmed. Because of the format, children are able to work more independently.

I chose this kit so I wouldn't need to purchase another for the next three grades and because i love the Judy clock for teaching time as the minute hand moves the clock in real time.

This matches up with our Saxon Math book lessons,

The wooden blocks and the Judy clock appealed to my family, and we will be able to use this manipulative kit for a few years with both of our children. The price point was great for all of the included items.

We did grade 2 without manipulatives, but it's a lot more work. Hoping it will be easier with stuff right on hand

To go with the saxon 1 kit. However I never would again! I would only buy the Judy Clock and wooden pattern blocks. All the rest is unnecessary and clutter up the house and our day.
Sarah J on Jan 31, 2017
I felt this was the most complete manipulative kit and I feel this would benefit my child.

I have a friend that has homeschooled all 9 of her children and has used the same manipulative kit for all of them! She recommended that I get the kit with the wooden blocks so that they will last longer!

Better price and additional items in comparison to Saxon

Because it was the upgraded edition that was not available (or I couldn't find on amazon) and was cheaper than amazon

I liked that it included optional items which would make all components of the program accessible to my children, without having to order things separate.

is there enough in one kit to help 2 students at once? I have two that will be doing Math 1 together, will one kit suffice or do I need two?
Lindsay on Feb 16, 2021
BEST ANSWER: I think so. It might not be perfect, but for most of the lessons you would be fine. There are 2 little clocks and 2 geoboards. There are times when the student is to mimic you, but I think you could manage with the complete set. We have never run out of the counting blocks or squares. And honestly sometimes just having a big jar of pennies handy is easier for me. But I am glad to have the set.

Great manipulative kit!
Love the manipulative kit! I bought it to use for my twins kindergarten Saxon. I love the feel and quality of the wooden pattern blocks and the snap of the cubes and that the Judy clock actually turns in time when you move the hands. Very nice quality!

Great quality manipulatives!
I purchased this set to go with the Saxon math curriculum. We just started the Kindergarten math book and the manipulatives have worked great so far. My son gets so excited whenever we pull out the linking cubes or pattern blocks to use with our math lesson. I plan to use these for the next few years since they are supposed to work for Saxon math through 3rd grade.

We just love these math manipulatives! It really helps my daughter to see the concepts she is learning My preschool son likes to use them too! In addition to using them with the Saxon curriculum we invent games to use them with This was also a better purchase (quality) than buying the kit that comes directly from Saxon

I LOVE these manipulatives What more could a girl/guy want or need? My kids love to play with just about every piece of math manipulative we have They are durable and fun My 2 year old all the way to my 7 year old love to use these which has turned math into play time instead of just school time Thank you for taking some of my work time away by putting these manipulatives together so cheaply They are well worth the price You just can't find this quality in our "Super math-mart" store
