Category Description for Saxon K-3 Program:

The Teacher's Manual contains the actual lesson plans and information vital to the effective presentation of math concepts. The consumable Meeting Books are used during the teacher-student "meeting" in which concepts are introduced, demonstrated and practiced. If teaching more than one student at the same level, you will only need one meeting book. Consumable Student Workbooks are used in grades 1-3 only and contain student materials, flash cards and practice pages. The Math K Home Study Kit contains teacher edition and meeting book. Math 1, 2, and 3 kits contain teacher edition, meeting book, and a set of 2 workbooks. Manipulatives are a vital, integral part of the program; these are not included in the Home Study Kits, but are available through us also.

Ordered the Saxon Math K and it is required for the lessons. It is way more convenient to buy these manipulatives as opposed to scavenging around for alternative manipulatives. I use Saxon Math for my older kids and know my youngest will follow that path too. So might as well get it for K-3 since she'll need it.

This kit is the most comprehensive of the Saxon K-3 manipulatives sets I've looked at for online retailers. I liked the flexibility of purchasing items a-la-carte, upgrading certain features, or having the optional items included. It's a lot of information to sift through between all the different kits offered, but certainly both the best selection and best prices.

Which manipulative set is suitable for Saxon math1?

BEST ANSWER: This one will work just fine. We used it for Saxon 1 and are still using it for Saxon 2. We have not yet used everything, but it has been great to have what we need. For us the manipulative add a really great hands on aspect to the lessons. With Saxon 1 I remember also needing dimes and pennies for many of the lessons. We kept a baggy of them with our math stuff. I am not sad I spent the money for the kit, nor am I sad to use space to store it. We plan to continue with Saxon 3 and will start our next child on Saxon math next year as well.

My kids love and I love this kit! It is nice just to be able to order the whole kit and not look for things at different times and different places.

Totally worth the cost
These add that fun element and visual aid for our kids. I was hesitant because I wanted to save money, but math has become our favorite subject and I'm so glad we got these. I suppose you could make/acquire some of the items along the way, but this is easy to just have what you need.
