Category Description for Life Skills Math:

This user-friendly series will help your high school student prepare for “adulting” in real life. The practical topics are up to date as far as technology, and yet, you will still learn how to write a check. Instruction is clear, with a few illustrations here and there, followed by questions to complete. Here are some topics covered in each book. Credit Cards: deciding if a CC is a good idea for you, the application process, credit limits, minimum payments, interest, etc. Budget: income vs. expenses, prioritizing, cost of college, family vs. individual, small business, etc. Bank Account: checking/savings accounts, debit cards, online banking, banking apps, recording transactions, auto-pay, reading a bank statement, etc. Bargain: grocery shopping, sales, major purchases, clothing, services, travel, etc. Checkbook: writing them (even for the current/next generation - they should at least know what a check is, right?), recording transactions, and balancing a bank statement. If a student completes all 5 consumable workbooks, this course work would likely earn a half-credit in consumer math, or as a personal finance elective. Answers are in the back. Reproducible for a single classroom/family use. 8.5”x11”, 62 pgs, pb. ~Sara

My students have been asking for more practical math that can be used in their daily lives. This bundle looked perfect. I think they'll suddenly feel as if Math is alive, now that they can see the "point" of understanding it through these scenarios.

In what order should these be done?
Cynthia S on Aug 1, 2023
BEST ANSWER: I don’t remember there being a specific order. I think my kids just did them as they wanted. Skills weren’t dependent on prior books.
Are some of these books 4th grade level, some 12th ? Or are they all a mixed range?
Susan on Jun 22, 2022
BEST ANSWER: We used this in the 9th grade. It will not last you for an entire year, but it's good math for kids to learn before they get out into the world of adulthood. I wouldn't use it for a 4th grader. Although the math isn't difficult to do, it's skills that an older student would need to learn and have fairly fresh in their minds when they begin to manage money as a young adult. It's much like a compressed version of Consumer Math. Hope this helps you.

A good course
Well written. Personally, I feel that the problems are pretty involved and a bit tricky for my son to get through without my help. But he does have special needs. For the typical child, this might be just the ticket to prepare them for living on their own. I am finding that our son is catching on, albeit slowly. So it takes an hour for us to do a couple problems. I gave it 4 stars because I feel most would skim through quicker and gain a lot from it. I trust our speed will keep improving!
