Category Description for Friendly Physical Science:

Taking a hands-on approach, this program allows students to creatively apply what they learn to the lessons. Using “friendly” language with clear explanations and approachable textual information, lessons are designed for student independence with parental oversight for projects and hands-on activities. Hands-on activities and projects use easily found resources. Twenty two lessons cover measurement, volume, mass, density, buoyancy, energy, time and speed, Newton’s Law of Motions, magnetism, electricity, electromagnetism, light, sound, heat energy, and basic chemistry. Lessons will take 1.5-2 hours to complete, and include a design engineering project that may take 1-2 weeks to complete. The design projects are strongly encouraged, but it is possible to complete the course without these. Along with the textbook, a Student Workbook and a Test/Solutions Book are available. The student workbook provides 1-2 worksheets per lesson. Questions review lesson concepts and are fill-in-the-blank and/ or multiple choice. The Test/Solutions book includes one multiple choice test per lesson. It also includes the solutions to the Tests and Student Worksheets.

This is the second Friendly course chosen by our co-op science teacher. Simple, straightforward, conversational writing. Experiments using inexpensive, common objects. Affordable. I was pleased with Friendly Biology, and I think this will work well for us, too.

Love the Friendly Sciences Curriculum! Absolutely one of the best science curriculums for non-science college major bound students. Gives a great foundational understanding of the subject matter without all of the memorization or extensive number of math problems (Chemistry). Plenty of detail for standard high school science knowledge.

BEST ANSWER: There is no explicit mention of "God" and "creation", but this curriculum is written by Joey and Lisa Hajda, who have homeschooled their 10 children. It's an excellent, well-written curriculum. I hope this helps.
22 lessons-- this equals a Semester credit course?

BEST ANSWER: This would be a full year of science for 8th or 9th grade science.
How heavy of a load are the worksheets? (how many/week)

BEST ANSWER: There are 22 chapters in the book and plenty of time to complete the book in a traditional 36 week school year. Some experiments take some additional time but they are not difficult, just a matter of planning and preparing for them. The worksheets are typically 2 to a chapter and can easily be completed in a week. The workload is very manageable.

Friendly is the right word! Very user friendly, easy to understand and not overwhelming at all for my special needs son.

Not enough help for instructors
I returned this program because there was very limited material for the teacher. I contacted the publishers and they gave some advice, which was not sufficient for my level of physical science experience. I suppose it would be a good program for someone with a science background. I am not one of those people.

Friendly Physical Science is truly user “friendly”
This program is exactly what I was looking for to use with my daughter. I no longer hear the complaint of “I hate science”.
It presents the facts without using a narrative style. I find that incredibly distracting in a science book.
The student worksheets are easy to use, as are the tests. The experiments are doable and not overwhelming to either the student or teacher. I would suggest compiling a supplies list to make it easier to complete the experiments.
