God's Great Book
This unique study/devotional book does a fine job of covering much of the Bible; it is packed full of 108 family-oriented Bible lessons from Genesis to Revelation. The author makes so much of the Bible accessible to even your young ones. The Old Testament section includes much of Genesis and Exodus and most familiar stories, as well as lessons on the kings and prophets. Most of the New Testament lessons are taken from the Gospels and Acts, but each other book
is given one chapter. Begin each lesson with the provided questions to arouse interest and introduce the lesson theme. The retelling of a Biblical story follows.
Choose to read the included Biblical story or the corresponding passage in your own Bible. The next section, entitled Things to Think About, provides open-ended questions for discussion. The devotional ends with Things to Pray About, which offers unscripted prayer suggestions. Each lesson concludes with Things to Do, an activity suggestion section. Here you will find general directions for varied activity options (crafts, serving, worship, etc.). In some cases, activities are geared to particular age groups and are identified as such. Many of the craft-type activities appeared to be more elementary-aged focused: make a people collage, make an advent chain, etc. However, since these activities are
explained in general terms, you can easily tailor the activity to your own child's level. Many of these activities require supplies you would normally have around a home-school house. There are some activities that require supplies, such as
"chalk talk" and flannel board suggestions, but these are optional. There are also unique suggestions that would be appropriate for a variety of ages such as singing and dancing to praise songs or thinking of a friend and planning a time to tell him about Jesus. This book would work as a more in-depth family devotional or as a Bible curriculum in the elementary years (no tests included). 595 pp, sc. ~ Ruth
