Great review for my 6th grader!
This is quick, simple, and easy for the student to complete independently. It's a great review and covers anything missed.

We love Apples for spelling.
Apples, works perfect for my daughter who struggles with spelling the rules repeated for 5 days, with filling in the missing word in the rule. Then there is a review of prior lessons. I wish I had discovered this years sooner.

It's an affordable program
The book wasn't exactly what I had hoped it would be. However, it does offer a steady daily skills practice that changes each day ever so slightly so that it isn't as boring. My kids do not moan when they see me pull the book, so that is a bonus. It's quick to complete, which is really important in our busy house. I can help where needed, or they can complete it independently.

I have a 16 year old son who is a terrible speller Woe is me! With the eyes of the world expecting homeschoolers to exceed in all academic endeavors above and beyond what the mass public schools are spitting out I'm sorry to say I felt the pressure I read all the advice tried games and alas his spelling still left much to be desired With other programs he would learn for the spelling test only or words he could spell today would be misspelled tomorrow Taking words from his writing was frustrating-for him and for me Along came Apples I highly recommend this spelling book for several reasons: it requires no teacher prep it is not demeaning work for an older student--which is a big problem when you need a structured course of action and your child is well past the age of most spelling programs-- and it actually helps No it is not a miracle cure and my son is not suddenly a perfect speller However the lessons are short and he does not complain about doing them Repetition and review is built in He needs the repetition but would 'tune out' if the lessons were too laborious or juvenile Its focus is actually on the common and sometimes simple misspelled words When I think about it these are the words that I most want him to know This is not a text for a good speller but I would hardly think you'd be looking for a spelling program for an older child if he/she did not have spelling difficulties There are no spelling tests and some of the pages incorporate Scripture as in using verses for fill-in-the-blank It seems to work in a very subtle way exposing the student to problem words repeatedly without making a big deal about it in the process Don't be fooled by its simplicity as I think that is a plus for my son who has little patience and attention span for spelling

This is the best spelling program I have used in the 10 years I have been homeschooling I have tried many programs over the years with my struggling spellers and found that though they may have learned the required spelling words they did not retain what they learned Apples is easy to use for the teacher and student works for all kinds of learning styles no teacher preparation time necessary useful for anyone 10 years old and up and is a great price My children begin to spell well after they begin to use this program I only wish they had Apples for elementary students

A friend recommended this product as all of the other spelling curricula I have tried so far hasn't been very effective or has been too teacher intensive for someone with a big family.

My sister uses this resource for her homeschooled children and thinks it is very helpful. I thought I would give it a try to reinforce the spelling rules we have learned.

I needed something that takes just a bit of time each day to brush up on spelling skills for my high school age students. A friend has had her children do Apples and Apples 2 and recommended them to me.

i'm not thrilled about the bible versus and scripture. However, we've tried a ton of spelling programs and i haven't been happy with any of them. So I'm going to try this one!

It came recommended by a friend. I have an 8th grader with poor spelling. I'm hoping to improve on the basics with this book. And I like that it says it doesn't take long. He really doesn't have time for another subject but needs it.

I used both Apples and Apples 2 Daily Drills with my two older kids many years ago. Their little brother is having trouble with spelling now, and both of them recommended that I get these books for him. They found them very helpful.

My middle school aged daughter needs some remedial help with spelling, but we did not want to spend a lot of time on spelling. Plus, she likes curricula that she can do on her own. We had tried a couple of other programs over the past few years, that just didn't fit or didn't work, but this seems to be helping her a lot, and she is willing to do it because it doesn't take long.

Is Apples 2 more specifically for Struggling spellers than Apples? I'm wondering which one to buy for my struggling reader?
A shopper on May 10, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Apples 2 is a more advanced version of Apples 1 - Both are focused basic spelling rules for older students - not specifically reading skills. My 11th grader is a wonderful student in every other aspect except spelling. These books have been excellent in going back to the basics for spelling. I hope that answers your question.
