World Studies Assessments 5th Edition

  This complete social studies curriculum assumes a strong Christian worldview that is meaningful and relevant in today’s world. It reflects a conservative evangelical perspective and would be a good choice for many Christians because of its Godly perspective. Heritage Studies uses a narrative approach making the books more interesting and provides a look at how God has interacted with human events to establish His kingdom, and give students an opportunity to study historical figures and events through the lens of God’s Word. In addition to the historical aspect of Heritage Studies, students are invited to evaluate concepts, cultural values, economic issues, and government systems using Scripture. By teaching the past, students become aware of the present and are better able to understand and think critically about issues they will face. Heritage Studies strives to present a balanced view of history and challenges students to think for themselves.

  Many of the texts have been updated and revised in recent years. Student Texts are colorful and non-consumable. Teacher Editions are full of resources (these will vary between editions), and usually include reduced student pages, teaching tips, background and supplemental information, and answer keys. Newer editions also include a Toolkit CD, which includes maps, visuals, instructional aids, Activity Manual Answer Keys (in some cases), and more. Activity Manuals include full-color pages to review and enrich lessons. Activity Manual Answer Keys are student activity manual pages with answers filled in – in some cases the Activity Manual answers are found in the teacher edition for that level.  Tests are non-reproducible and come in a packet with one test per chapter; Tests Answer Keys are student tests with the answers filled in. A Visuals Packet is available for grade 1 (optional) and includes a timeline, maps, pictures, interactive figures, and full-color charts. Home School Kits include the required materials for teaching Heritage Studies at each grade level, and usually includes a Student Text, Teacher Edition, Activity Manual, Activity Manual Answer Key (where needed), Tests, and Tests Answer Keys.

No matter the edition, the BJU World Studies (grade 7) typically begins with a view of Creation-and early civilizations. Spanning through the ages, major civilizations and growth of religions are examined. Then, texts proceeds to the Middle Ages, the time of revolutions, and then and continue through to the twenty-first century, presenting a historical, geographical, and thematic survey of God's dealings with the people of the world.   Centering history study on the work of Jesus Christ, students will examine the governments, economies, religions, and geography from ancient to modern times through a Biblical worldview lens. This edition is specifically designed to follow the BJU 6th grade Heritage Studies of Ancient Civilizations (#515098) which provides a foundational knowledge of the ancient world. Then, this edition starts with a quick overview of ancient cultures and religions, then focusing primarily on the modern world. From the emergence of Europe, Asia, and Mongol Empires, the overall historical threads then travel mostly chronologically through Eurasia, Oceania, Africa, and Asia, emphasizing major themes such as revolutions, wars, and cultural changes. Text ends with events in the Islamic world, BREXIT, Covid-19, world natural disasters, and Christian persecution.   This edition includes some special features, including Guiding Questions, Critical Thinking, and Reading Check questions, all which help students process and evaluate concepts from their reading. The Turning Points sections highlight events which dramatically changed world history, such as Jesus’ Resurrection, the Reformation, the Spanish Armada, Siege of Vienna, and Ronald Reagan’s Evil Empire speech (AKA “Tear Down This Wall”). The Teacher Edition (spiral bound 471 pgs, sc) uses a wrap-around format with chapter overview, objectives, resources needed, Engage questions to initiate interest, answers for student questions, teacher notes, sidebar activities to engage, instruct, apply, and assess student’s learning. Students will read and learn about these major themes and events using the Student Text (608 pgs, sc). In doing so, students will practice map-reading skills, discuss cultural developments, and focus on the themes of justice, power, citizenship, environment, and religion. Using the consumable World Studies Activities (212 pgs, sc), students will engage with primary and secondary sources, document key elements of major religions, complete map work, and engage with crucial topics like cultural developments, and Christian humanism, and socialism. Assessments include 3 quizzes (typically T/F, Short Answer, and Multiple Choice) and 1 test (typically T/F, Short Answer, Multiple Choice, Essay, and Matching) per chapter. Assessments Answer Key provides all answers, when possible, for the student’s assessments, including short answer.
