Description

Students will find this textbook organized topically and sequentially with each topic thoroughly explained. Skill Checks throughout the lesson provide a few problems for the student to practice the concept. The end of each lesson includes exercise sets A (minimum track), B (standard track), and C (most challenging). Exercise “C” sets can be omitted or used as extra credit if desired. There are about 10 problems at the end of these exercises containing cumulative review. Cumulative review exercises also include the number of the lesson in parenthesis showing where the concept was first introduced. Each chapter has a “Math – Then & Now” page giving historical examples of how math has made improvements in everyday life. The end of each chapter has review exercises to prepare for the test. Colorful illustrations and engaging cartoons provide an added element of appeal to the text.

Publisher's Description of Fundamentals of Math Student Edition 3rd Edition
The BJU Press 7th grade math book focuses on the fundamentals of math to help students build the skills necessary for future math courses. In our 7th grade math textbook, students review all the foundational concepts learned in elementary school and deepen their understanding of concepts introduced in middle school. We are pleased to be able to distribute BJU Press curriculum to our customers. Published by a Christian university located in South Carolina, BJU Press produces and markets curriculum materials for Christian schools as well as home schools. Probably the most homeschool-friendly full-curriculum supplier, they have not only accommodated homeschoolers, but have continually worked to make their materials better suited to the homeschooling family. Many of their courses now contain manuals written specifically for the home school setting, and visuals and supplemental materials have been "pared down" from the bulkier visuals still used in classrooms. While other curriculum suppliers initially frowned on distributing teacher materials to homeschoolers, and provided only expensive classroom versions, Bob Jones quickly embraced homeschoolers, readily allowing them access to teacher's editions and, eventually, producing less expensive spiral-bound or paperbound versions to save money for homeschooling families. One of the strengths of the Bob Jones program is the teaching of concepts, rather than the rote how-to-solve-it approach. Also, Christian principles and character traits are assumed and integrated throughout the program. Each level is themed, providing a motivational learning context. Lessons are "spiraled", meaning topics are reviewed throughout each level, delving a little deeper each time. Lesson exercises consist mainly of practice for that lesson, not a review of previous lessons or chapters. However, topics are not covered, then left forever; they reappear in more complexity throughout the course, allowing for more practice. We have long been fans of Bob Jones curriculum materials, having used courses in almost every subject area for one child or another through the years. In our particular situation (seven children, Mom and Dad sharing in teaching as well as in running Rainbow Resource Center), a well-constructed, teacher-ready course can be a God-send. Although we have used a variety of methods and curriculums in our homeschool through the years (and continue to do so), we strongly feel that the Bob Jones materials we have used have helped to produce excellent, college-ready students. Unless you have a particularly strong aversion to textbooks of any kind, at any level, we highly recommend these materials to you.

Category Description for Bju Press Math - Secondary

BJU Press’s middle and high school math courses equip students to develop advanced mathematical skills and strategies. Ultimately, this scaffolded program enables students to solve real-world problems by extending their understanding through strategic modeling of mathematical procedures, tiered practice problems, and the use and creation of mathematical models in authentic contexts. Relatively new is the revised Geometry book for Grade 10. For those desiring to approach geometry as a separate course, this revised text will supply a solid option to the Jacobs text. For those students who are not interested in pursuing math beyond algebra or geometry, Bob Jones supplies a Consumer Math course that presents math required for practical living. While there is no separate calculus course, the Algebra 2 text does introduce the college-bound student to calculus.

Math 7 provides students with more computational practice and problem-solving practice. Two editions are currently available, with significant differences between them. Editions are not compatible. See specific editions for content summaries. Currently, the 2nd Edition is utilized in the Online/Video Courses from BJU. Homeschool Kit includes Teacher Guides Volumes 1 & 2, Student Textbook, Assessments, Assessment Answer Key, Activities Manual, and Activities Manual Answer Key.

Category Description for Bju Press Math Grade 7 (3rd Ed.)

Significantly updated, the 3rd edition Fundamentals of Math, has gone through content and scope/sequence revisions based on current standards and customer feedback. Students will review whole numbers, decimals, integers, fractions, measurements, and geometry, and they will extend their knowledge of square roots, exponents, algebraic expressions, equations and inequalities, percentages, functions, probability, surface area and volume, and statistics. Each exercise set includes a spiral review of previously learned concepts. Math practice is emphasized, and exercises related to problem solving and application are included to challenge students. Some of these activities are designed for cooperative learning, but individual students should be able to complete them with support. Quarterly STEM Projects have also been added. A biblical worldview is integral.

Spiral-bound Teacher Guides are broken down into semesters and pages lay flat for easy viewing. Each lesson is comprised of four main components: engage (discussion), instruct (direct instruction or activities), apply (student work), and assess (quiz or test). Detailed lesson plans give parents plenty of guidance. A reduced copy of student pages with short answers is included. Longer answers with solutions for additional exercises are included in the margins. Assignments for minimum, standard, and extended tracks provide differentiated instruction.

HomeschoolHub.com provides homeschool parents with digital resources corresponding to the teacher guide as well as a digital scheduler and gradebook. AfterSchoolHelp.com provides video lessons and additional practice for major concepts.

The Student Textbook is organized sequentially with each topic thoroughly explained. Skill Checks throughout the lesson provide a few problems for the student to practice the concept. The end of each lesson includes exercise sets A, B, and C according to level of difficulty (Exercise C providing the most challenge). There are about 10 problems at the end of these exercises containing cumulative review. Cumulative review exercises also include the number of the lesson in parenthesis showing where the concept was first introduced. Each chapter has a "Math – Then & Now" page giving historical examples of how math has made improvements in everyday life. The end of each chapter has review exercises to prepare for the test. Colorful illustrations and engaging cartoons provide an added element of appeal to the text.

The Activity Manual provides worksheets that can be used for remedial purposes or for extra enrichment or practice if desired. Some of the activities include word problems, drill sheets, enrichment activities, or STEM projects. The Activity Manual Answer Key includes a copy of the manual with answers in red. It also shows what type of practice each page contains and when to use it.

Assessments include all the quizzes and tests for the course: 14-chapter tests, 4 cumulative reviews, and an average of 3 quizzes per chapter. Assessments Answer Key includes a copy of each test or quiz with answers and complete solutions.
