Activities build on concepts already taught and allow students to expand their understanding of math skills. Answers are provided in the back for problems that have only one direct answer.

Publisher's Description of Investigate Math: Grade 4

Designed to give students opportunities to investigate math concepts and skills more deeply, the activities in this book are open-ended and can be used repeatedly. Through the use of manipulatives, representational drawing, and writing, students look at math ideas from various angles and explore how new concepts fit into what they already know. Skills include multiplication, division, operations with multi-digit numbers, fractions, decimals, area, perimeter, angles, and more.

Category Description for Investigate Math

These workbooks by Scholastic help kids connect new concepts to previous ones already learned. The activities are open-ended, and allow students to look at problems from various angles and therefore develop flexible thinking skills. Students can use manipulatives to help solve problems. The manipulatives needed are listed in the back of the book and include items such as geoboards, base ten blocks, or other common school supplies. After the math activities, the Investigative section allows advanced learners to solve difficult problems, and the Write About It section allows students to reflect on what they learned. Answers are in the back for problems that do not have multiple possible answers. Grade 3 does not have answers because there is not just one correct answer for most of the problems in this level.
