Catch on to Cursive

If fishing thrills your kids, they'll be hooked on this approach to D'Nealian cursive handwriting. Students learn about fishing (and a wee bit of science) and practice penmanship skills. Cartoon characters Skeeter, Susie, and Anna guide them through Bible content as a context for writing, specifically highlighting the “fishers of men," parables, the Beatitudes, and God's creation. As a member of Club Skeeter, your child will mark progress, receiving paper badges to collect and color as their skills progress. Each week, one letter is covered for 3 days (Go Fish sections). On the third day, “weigh-in" with review or practice activities. Day 5 provides a spiritual application prompt for discussion or writing practice. Activities will include some additional household supplies (list provided in Gather Your Gear). Periodic “Fishing Derbies" allow students to show off their mastered skills. A schedule provides options for older or younger students. This book is full of interactive ways to help students gain cursive skills over the 36 weekly units (Tackle Boxes), with 1 Bait & Tackle lesson daily).

Gear UP (16 total) tasks provide visual tracking, hand-eye control, and core strength activities that are repeated throughout the year. For older students, or those needing more practice, an additional 110 activities are included (with longer Scripture passages; lists/ideas for various topics, brief paragraph-length writing prompts, and more). While references are ESV and NKJV, your choice of Bible version is easy to incorporate.

Layout is vibrant yet uncluttered, with 1/2" writing lines (dotted center line). You'll need additional handwriting paper since daily practice space is limited. Puzzle answer keys are available from publisher as download. Includes a page on left-handed writers, a scope and sequence for recording.
