Category Description for Poetry Readers

With a chief aim of simply to delight in the poem, Cottage Press has provided a much-needed series. Based on the Charlotte Mason model of poetry study, this series focuses on one poet at a time and encourages family poetry reading (repetitive over several days) with the sole purpose of basking in the rhythmic language and interacting with the poet. Each volume provides a year's worth of poetry to be "studied in this manner: typically a dozen or more best-loved poems (12-25 pgs) from three poets, along with selections from Shakespeare's sonnets and plays. Extensive biographical information is provided for each poet including analytical information from other well-known literary figures. The series will ultimately include six volumes and can be used with a wide age/grade range of students. Some of the selected poets are known for their Christian content. Illustrations include poet portraits and a full-page representation of the cover art. ~ Janice
