Category Description for Times Tales:

Multiplication tables can be so difficult to learn. If a child can memorize or use a manipulative to learn their tables, there are plenty of products to help you out, but what about those children who are more visual/auditory? Times Tales DVD makes learning upper tables fun - and in a short amount of time.

Learning is done in two parts. Children are to listen and watch the stories in the first part of the DVD in order to master the facts being presented. After completing the steps in the first part of the DVD, they can then proceed to the second part. The second part of the DVD presents more stories that build on the stories in part 1. Children will learn 3x6, 3x7, 3x8, 3x9, 4x6, 4x7, 4x8, 4x9, 6x6, 6x7, 6x8, 6x9, 7x7, 7x8, 7x9, 8x8, 8x9, 9x9 with the creative mnemonics presented in the illustrations and stories in the DVD. When children recall the story, they will recall the fact. The characters in the stories are represented by number people - 3 is a butterfly, 4 is a chair, 6 is the children of the first grade class, 7 is Mrs. Week, 8 is Mrs. Snowman, and 9 is a tree house. The story then tells about a fact that is illustrated in the picture. For example, "Mrs. Week (7) went butterfly hunting. She captured 20 butterflies in her net and one landed on her head." The illustration is Mrs. Week (7) holding a butterfly net with 20 butterflies (3) in the net and 1 butterfly (3) on her head. The fact to learn is 3 x 7 = 21.

A CD-ROM is also included with the DVD. It includes written tests, flashcards, crossword puzzles, and a fun game all in pdf format.

If you want your child to have a small flip chart for story review, there is a set that includes a 3"x 5" spiral-bound flip chart. The cardstock flip chart includes a picture for each story from the DVD along with the story. The reverse of the page has just the picture, so children can retell the story. There is also a fact review page at the end of part one and part two.

This is a product with no student boundaries - use it for the very young, for remedial work, or for students with learning disadvantages. It is non-consumable, so great for multiple students. Have some fun and work on those harder-to-remember multiplication facts. ~ Donna

I used this with my two older kids, and they learned their times tables in 2 weeks! My daughter still uses the stories to remember her multiplication facts. She's fast, but she mentioned how she can still see the characters in her mind from when she learned it this way!

Is it necessary to have the DVD and the workbook?
Pierce on Jul 20, 2021
BEST ANSWER: No. They can work alone. I would suggest the dvd. My kids had fun reviewing and practicing their upper times table with the dvd. The workbook reinforces what they have learned and if you have a child that is a vision learner rather than audio it will also help.

Necessary Addition
I wasn't sure whether or not to include the workbook - would it be too redundant? The answer is: no! It was exactly what we needed to solidify all that we were working on with the video. It's a worthwhile investment to add this to the purchase if you're investing in the video. The book has a variety of tools for reviewing the stories (the facts) which helped my daughter to improve recall and speed.

This worked wonders!
This workbook, and the DVD of the same name, was a game changer for us. My 10 year old son has dyscalcula, and was finding it next to impossible to learn and remember his multiplication tables. It was becoming really frustrating for both of us, because we had tried so many techniques and nothing worked. Times Tales actually worked. He took longer to master it than the instructions said was typical, but he can now actually recall the facts he struggled so hard to learn. Being successful also increased his confidence. I HIGHLY recommend this resource!

Great Workbook
My 4-5th grader is enjoying this workbook and has been reciting her upper times tables to me. Yay! She hates math, so this is exciting.

Times Tales is magical.
My 3rd grade daughter really struggled with learning times tables, and math had become a daily exercise in frustration (and tears). We tried flashcards, skip counting, rewards.. nothing helped. In desperation I stumbled on this workbook and decided it couldn't hurt to try. Within a week it was clearly working, and in a month's time she has learned all her upper times tables - happily, with laughter, not tears. Her recall isn't quite as fast as with flashcards, yet (because she has to think of the story first, then the answer) but she is getting quicker all the time and at least she knows the answers now! I can wholeheartedly recommend to anyone whose child struggles with rote memorization. The stories are funny, and the workbook questions are just right for cementing the story in the child's (and parent's!) brain.
