Publisher Description:

Student Book: Harold Jacobs' Geometry has been an authoritative standard for years, with nearly one million students having learned geometry principles through the text. Now revised with a daily schedule, the text is adaptable for either classroom or homeschool use. With the use of innovative discussions, cartoons, anecdotes, and vivid exercises, students will not only learn but will also find their interest growing with each lesson. The full-color student book focuses on guided discovery to help students develop geometric awareness. Geometry is all around us. Prepare to understand its dynamic influence so much better!

Teacher Guide: Lessons are divided into 16 chapters, covering deductive reasoning, congruence and similarity, transformations, coordinate geometry, area, geometric solids and non-Euclidean geometries, with helpful summaries and reviews. As the student works through the textbook, selected answers to problems are available in the textbook, with full solutions to all of the exercises available in the Solutions Manual for the Geometry: Seeing, Doing, Understanding course.

Solutions Manual: This Solutions Manual provides more than mere answers to problems, explaining and illustrating the process of the equations, as well as identifying the answers for all exercises in the course, including mid-term and final reviews.

DVD Instruction: Harold Jacob's classic Geometry textbook + thorough explanations of each lesson on video = an excellent year in math

Homeschooling geometry is a breeze with this DVD supplement.

Students view lessons in conjunction with reading their textbook and watch an experienced mathematics instructor solve example problems step by step.

Dr. Callahan emphasizes the importance of understanding the concepts behind geometry and focuses on explaining just that in his video lessons. Students can follow along as he teaches key concepts without lots of difficult math jargon.

As a longtime university professor, homeschool dad, and math teacher for homeschool groups, Dr. Callahan has plenty of experience with what geometry concepts students need to know, what they find difficult, and how to explain both well. Dr. Callahan is a casual but thorough instructor who will give your child the tools he or she needs to understand the material.

Between Jacobs Geometry and Dr. Callahan's instruction, you can be confident in your student's grasp of geometry.

Approximately 4 hours of content on 5 DVDs.

Now in third edition and being published by Master Books, this newest version of Jacobs Geometry: Seeing, Doing, and Understanding preserves all the features that have made his text so popular with educators in the past. Like previous editions, this text stresses logic and deductive reasoning but does not take a "discovery" approach. This is an excellent geometry course with clear explanations of geometric concepts that include practice with proofs (informal and paragraph). Please note: instructional content of this version including answers and solutions is mostly identical to the content of the older, out-of-print version published by W. H. Freeman & Co.

The full color Student Text offers a thorough study of Euclidean geometry beginning with an introduction to geometry then topics builds incrementally - nature of deductive reasoning, lines & angles, congruence, inequalities, parallel lines, quadrilaterals, transformations, area, similarity, right triangle, circles, concurrence theorems, regular polygons and the circle, geometric solids, and non-Euclidean Geometries. Each chapter ends with review and a midterm and final review. For every lesson, there are three sets of exercises - all three practice the concepts presented, but the third set may offer a bit more challenge. Each exercise assumes knowledge gained in previous lessons in order to construct proofs. An appendix containing a glossary, all presented theorems, postulates, and formulas, and selected answers to exercises is most helpful.

A Teacher Guide includes a weekly lesson schedule with space to record the due date and grade, chapter tests, mid-term and final exam, and test answer keys. The Teacher Guide also includes reference pages that include a glossary, formulas, and postulates & theorems as presented by chapter.

The Solutions Manual is a big plus for this course! This book offers solutions (not just answers) for all exercises in each chapter, as well as chapter reviews and midterm and final review.

DVD Instruction is a wonderful tutorial taught by Dr. Dale Callahan. Using examples and illustrations, students will learn to write proofs and prove properties of geometric figures. The DVDs correspond to chapters 1-15 of the text, and there are five discs in the set. Students using this DVD set also have access to free homework help, via e-mail, from Dr. Callahan.

The Teacher Guide suggests that students will need a notebook and graph paper for use with the course, and the Dr. Callahan DVD (Disc 1, introduction) suggests that you will need a protractor, compass, straight edge, and calculator for the course. Dr. Callahan's suggestion is that, at minimum, you should have a scientific calculator with SIN and COSIN, but if you are going on in math, a graphing calculator (TI89) is preferred.

For thorough preparation for the ACT, SAT, and future math courses, this geometry course has the bases covered. ~ Donna

We had to purchase this curriculum for our hybrid home school program. I added the DVDs so that she could have additional help and explanations, esp. over the summer to get ahead.

Jacob's Alg went so well. We should stick with what works. My student is a 5th grader. Jacobs is a good curriculum for an advanced student because of the layout.

I chose this because online research promoted this product. When I looked at the textbook, it seemed sequential and easy to understand, based on history. I hope so!

I like the real world applications, I feel it will be understandable for my daughter. Also, I think the DVD's will help bring her to a better level of understanding. I have looked at several different geometry programs and I liked this the best.

Heard it has a good reputation for outstanding geometry lessons. Plus, the DVD will come in very handy (no more searching the internet for U-Tube videos!).

My research leads me to believe this is an excellent program for my homeschooled high schooler. She also read a sample from the text and liked it. The price was unbeatable. Even used prices were not worth the tradeoff of ordering from a single, professional company.

We used Jacobs for Alg 1 and enjoyed the book. Hoping for an equally great Geometry experience.

is this a common core edition?
A shopper on Dec 4, 2017
BEST ANSWER: No, Jacobs Geometry is not aligned to Common Core.
What content does the Teacher's guide have that I wouldn't already have with the solutions manual & the DVD set? Does the student text or teacher's manual contain tests? If there are tests, are there solved solutions for them?
A shopper on Nov 30, 2017
BEST ANSWER: A Teacher Guide includes a weekly lesson schedule with space to record the due date and grade, chapter tests, mid-term and final exam, and test answer keys. The Teacher Guide also includes reference pages that include a glossary, formulas, and postulates & theorems as presented by chapter.

There are tests and answers for the tests but not full solutions for the test problems.

The extras like videos, teacher’s guide, and solutions manual did not provide the help I was expecting.
I expected a lot more from the videos. They were quite short and not much beyond what the book presented. We did not find them helpful and have stopped using them. I was also disappointed that the set didn’t provide worked solutions. It wasn’t as easy to implement the program with that. Overall I had expected a lot more teacher support from the videos, teacher’s guide, and solutions manual. However, I think Jacobs’ text is well done. It just needs a more competent teacher or better resources for a homeschool mom with a lot on her plate besides this class.
