Description

Have an older student who wants to learn to play the piano? It can be done and this course will give your student helpful tools. While recognizing that a skilled professional teacher can make a big difference, this course will get your student off to a good start and provide an easy transition to a teacher later, if they wish. Using the same music and fundamentals as Alfred's Basic Adult Course but adding a user-friendly self-teaching guide, the student is introduced to the keyboard, note-reading, note values, intervals, dynamics, chords, time signatures, flats/sharps, and major/minor scales. Each music page is preceded by a study guide page (left-hand; right-hand) which offers explanations, directions and additional information. It serves as your at-home teacher. The online access video features a teacher who takes it one step further, providing much of the same information and giving the student a birds-eye view of her hands on the piano. Familiar tunes are introduced almost at the beginning and the student is playing with first one hand and by the end of the book, with both hands. Musical tracks of these songs are provided on the included online access audio and icon-designated as a reminder to listen. These tracks are helpful for several reasons. The tempo is established, the student can hear the tune and can play along to improve speed, accuracy and technique. By the end of this book, the student is playing several complete songs and ready for Book 2 of the Adult Basic Course. Book comes with online access inside the front cover. 192 pgs, pb ~ Janice
