Product Description:

Does your child struggle with retaining math facts or forget how to perform basic math computations? Do they need to use math manipulatives for basic math facts, even into their middle school years? With the majority of math curricula written for the left-brain learners who easily understand the drill-based math facts taught through black and white images, what is a parent to do with a child who learns differently and is not able to grasp math as traditionally taught? This DVD may provide the key to defeating frustration and overcoming forgetfulness! Beginning with a brief overview of right and left-brain learning as it applies to mathematics, Dianne Craft shares effective strategies to help struggling learners retain math facts and processes. While recommendations for math curricula workbooks are offered, these techniques would work with most math programs that you are currently using-with just a bit of tweaking! Strategies to teach addition/subtraction, multiplication/division, Algebra (order of operations), fractions and multiplication by 3 digits are included. This totally different teaching method will retrain the "non-math brain into a math sponge, giving your child confidence and skills for math success! While not part of the Right Brained Math Series from Child First Publications, this DVD could be a vital forerunner to that series, providing parents and teachers a foundational understanding of right brain leaners and their distinctive needs. Part of the "Struggling Learner Seminar series. DVD runs approximately 40 minutes. ~ Deanne

Publisher Description:

For some children, math is a monster! They hate it, and always feel frustrated when doing it. Math is almost always taught in a left brain manner. You can teach it in a right brain manner. These children have difficulty learning math facts, They often can't move past manipulatives to add or subtract. They tend to do poorly on tests, because they 'forget' how to do the math processes (division, fractions, algebra, etc.)

In this workshop you will learn how to help this struggling student.

Finally store the math facts AND processes in their right brain long term memory; No curriculum to purchase...just fast, effective right brain strategies to use in the classroom or at home to reduce math frustration and tears!

This is a totally different teaching strategy than you have ever used before! It retrains the brain for math!

This is the method I used in my Resource Rooms to get my 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th graders to pass tests so they could go on to higher math.

Which curriculum is best? Find out what works for these students in this teaching:

I have a recently diagnosed grandchild with ADHD who is struggling with learning Math. This DVD looks helpful for the child, the parents and grandparents. Would work in cooperation with the school curriculum and teacher for everyone's better understanding.

I have her dvd on paragraph writing, and she has good ideas for right-brain learners. Although I haven't had a chance to implement her ideas yet, they seem very doable, and I look forward to seeing progress by using them!

My son has aspergers and auditory processing disorder. It can make some subjects harder to understand and retain. He especially struggles with math and reading comprehension. I am hoping to find a new way of teaching him these things so they will “stick” in his mind better. This would be a totally new approach, but I would do anything for him.

Trying to teach right brain learners using left brain methods seems unfair, unkind, and frustrating for all of us. I want to know more about teaching right brain learners.
