Product Description:

A base ten set with a difference the "cube" is a clear acrylic box calibrated in 100 ml intervals with a lid. Not sure what it's for? Well, did you know that the mass of a base ten "flat" (100 cm cubes) equals 100 ml? So, the liter box (10 x 100 ml) "houses" the orange base ten set (9 flats, 9 rods, & 10 units; i.e. a cubic decimeter) perfectly. This is the perfect set to show the relationship between cm/liters/milliliters. The calibrated box allows for experimenting with liquids; demonstrating volume concepts, and volume/mass relationships. ~ Janice

Publisher Description:

This shatterproof plastic cube can be used to demonstrate volume concepts such as the composition of a liter (100 cubic centimeters) and the components of a cubic decimeter. Included in the cube are 9 flats, 9 rods and 10 unit cubes.

I teach chemistry. These cubes have helped my students understand that volume is a derived unit and why 1 mL equals 1 cubic centimeter, what 1 liter is, and what it means to measure volume.

To illustrate the relationship between 1000 cubic cm and a liter and to show how volume is related to LxWxH by having the students calculate volume by adding cm. cubes to a line indicated on the outside of the transparent model.

does each cubic cm have a 1 gram mass? And the 100 cubic cm piece equal 100 grams?
A shopper on Jan 13, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Each cubic cm does have a 1 gram mass but the 100 cubic cm piece does not equal 100 grams. The reason is that much less plastic is used to give the representation of the 100 unit flat than there would be if there were 100 actual unit cubes combined.

Liter Cube set
A great tool to show the magnitude of 1000, how it can be broken down and as an extra fill it with water to teach what a liter is!
