Description
This deceptively simple collection of plastic pieces is a clever manipulative for investigating all sorts of shapes and angles. The "stix" come in eight colors and range in size from 1.25" to 6.25" not necessarily in evenly graduated increments. They are flexible (will bend) and have protruding little knobs on one of the flat sides with corresponding holes on the other. Not surprisingly, the knobs fit into the holes, and the result is connectivity. You can connect these little guys up into any straight-sided, two- dimensional, geometric figure squares, rectangles, triangles, rhombi, parallelograms, hexagons, etc. There are 12 each of the four smaller sizes and 8 each of the four larger sizes. The package also contains two small protractors and a packet of laminated cards (23 activities). Activities range from the simple defining shapes, to the basic measuring angles with a protractor, to the advanced triangle sums and proving pythogoras. This set of stix will go a long way toward helping your hands-on, kinesthetic student (as well as a lot of the rest of us) understand geometric relationships. ~ Janice
