Category Description for Prima Latina (Gr. K-3):

This course is aimed towards young Latin scholars. Designed to precede Latina Christiana I, it introduces students to beginning Latin. 25 lessons cover seven parts of speech, two tenses, 125 vocabulary words, numbers 1 through 10, basic constellations, and introductions to conjugations, declensions and derivatives. The lessons are broken down into grammar skills, five vocabulary words, a practical Latin phrase, and a line of prayer that is completely learned by the end of the chapter. Also included are five review lessons, five tests, and an appendix and answer key. The CD (available in hard copy or streaming) includes an introduction, pronunciation guide, prayer instructions, the sanctus, the doxology, the table blessing, the pater noster, and pronunciation helps for the lessons. We offer the individual components separately, or in sets for convenience. The Text Set includes the student book, teacher manual, and CD. The Complete Set also includes the flashcards (designed to be used with both Prima Latina and Latina Christiana I) and DVDs.

My children will part of a Memoria Press Cottage School called Highlands Latin Santa Clarita and so I am switching all of our curriculum to Memoria Press books. Also, I wanted my daughters to practice cursive and what better way than to practice Lain and cursive.

I homeschool 4 children, and my children need a quiet subject to work on independently when I'm working one-on-one with my other kiddos. Not only are they practicing their cursive with this book, but they are memorizing their Latin at the same time!

My 3rd grader loves cursive and this book reinforces the terms learned in each lesson. We do a lesson of Latin each week and this is the final day of the week, like a reward for finishing. However, my younger daughter is not ready for cursive but is ready for Latin, so I don't think I'll use the copybook for her. But who knows maybe it will motivate her to improve her handwriting!

My son is grade 5th and never did latin. Is it still better for him to begin with the first set?

BEST ANSWER: My daughter is in 4th grade and this is her first year of Latin. We began with this program and she loves it. Honestly! She requests we "do" Latin first. She loves learning the Latin prayers and is eager to recite what she knows to her dad and her grandparents. The copybook just help reinforce what she is learning and gives her more cursive practice, which she also loves.

There are actually 31 pages of copywork in this book. There are a few pages in the front with simple handwriting to copy...& not a script I would use. Then there are pages with only lines. The only useful pages (31) have the student copy words from the lessons with _____ means _____. That's the whole book. Nothing you can't do on your own for free.
