Abeka Arts and Crafts with Button Bear (2nd Edition)
Little ones can enjoy art and develop their motor skills with the age-appropriate projects found in this publication. Includes activities related to Bible stories, seasons, holidays, and some academic content. Clear instructions and supply lists are right inside the book, making it easy to get started. Each child needs their own book. This includes 40 activities for two-year-olds and is the 2nd edition. Not reproducible.
Arts and crafts give children a hands-on learning approach to daily concepts such as Bible stories, counting, animals, opposites, seasons, holidays, and more. This activity book contains 40 projects designed to reinforce lessons taught throughout the year in the Homeschool Preschool Lesson Plans, or it can be used independently. For extra fun, six of the projects are based on enjoyable children’s songs. Use the art projects while singing the songs from the Fun Songs for Little Ones and Little Ones Sing unto the Lord CDs (sold separately).
“Art” for 2s and 3s consists of large pages with simple activities to teach children foundational art concepts. The volume for two-year-old children presents shapes and colors, following directions and developing eye-hand coordination. At 3, these skills continue, and they add seasonal and patriotic themes, religious art, health, safety and science pictures. Both levels include lots of simple wide lines for drawing – and kids create a book of their finished pages. Images are soft and charming and line up with the pre-school lessons featured in the Abeka curriculum.
With clear instructions for the teacher, even a not-too-artsy parent can work in an art lesson in 25-30 minutes a week. A year at a glance schedule and the scope & sequence of topics covered lay out what you can expect for the school year. Teacher tips and plan ahead supply lists make this program very user-friendly. Teacher help and student pages at each level are all in one convenient book. Art concepts or techniques are clearly defined at the beginning of each lesson. This includes vocabulary words. In grades 4-6, the focus of the lessons is basic drawing techniques, painting, color concepts and perspective. I appreciate the extended projects for more artsy students to do on their own after the lesson. In the younger levels K-3, projects are more of the cut & paste crafty projects kids love, with some basics on the color wheel. The holiday and seasonal pages are especially fun! Many of the pages are even started for the student to finish. You could not find an easier way to work some arts & crafts into your week than this friendly, one book format series that only requires a few basic art supplies. Perforated pages are not reproducible. Large 9” x 12” format. Books in the series range from 119-167 pgs, pb. ~Sara
