Description
Publisher's Description of Write & Draw Math - Kindergarten

Help young children develop critical thinking skills with open-ended problems, for which there is no one correct answer. Working in small groups, children use readily available manipulatives to explore various solutions and describe their answers through writing and drawing. Each activity page can be reused multiple times, using larger numbers as children become more adept at working with small numbers. A fun and engaging way to promote mathematical thinking!

Category Description for Write & Draw Math

Attention visual learners and problem solvers! Each book includes open-ended math challenges that are perfect for pair or small-group work. Parents could use them as a daily math warm-up activity. You will use some basic manipulatives: a spinner, ruler, even colored pencils. I like how many of the tasks ask for several solutions – not just one right answer. This builds mathematical reasoning skills. The problems are fun too! In grade 1, you are asked to estimate the length of items (pencil, crayon, book, eraser, scissors and a shoe), write it down, then measure the items and write that next to your estimate. You then write a couple sentences about your most accurate estimate. Reproducible for a single classroom/family. 64 pages. ~Sara
