This course covers all the writing styles (persuasive, expository, descriptive, and narrative) as well as the critical elements - such as planning, introductions, conclusions, evaluating, editing, and quotations/references - needed for expertise at the high school, college, or work-place level. And this is all in 108 daily lessons, with 22 essays, reports, articles, and narratives!

Publisher Description:

Take the guesswork and anxiety out of grading essays with the 2nd edition of this TEACHER'S GUIDE!

You spoke, and we listened. THE POWER IN YOUR HANDS, 2ND EDITION, TEACHER'S GUIDE includes an easy-to-use grading grid for each essay. Now you can evaluate your teens' essays by answering simple and clear questions. Whether you are new at grading or a seasoned pro, your nail-biting days are over.

Answers to all the daily lessons are included, along with many student and professional essays from the textbook.

Each assigment includes a specific checklist and writing schedule; these are included in this guide.

Also in the TEACHER'S GUIDE is the 14-Minute Power Surges, a fun program of daily writing prompts geared to interest even the most reluctant writers. This program is similar to Sharon Watson's 10-Minute Writing Plunges found in JUMP IN, her popular middle school writing curriculum published by Apologia Educational Ministries.

Category Description for Power in Your Hands: Writing Nonfiction:

It has been said that the pen is mightier than the sword. Well, the truth is in the training! Author Sharon Watson helps students unlock their writing potential in this high school course that explores and exercises the tools for successful non-fiction writing. Her teaching style is conversational and engaging, the examples she uses are clear and attainable, and her instruction is step-by-step and highly detailed. The format is easily adapted to classroom, co-op, or homeschool use (suggesting a one-year schedule for the first two and a two-year schedule for the latter). Student and teacher books are separate, with the student portion designed to be essentially self-guided. Students will find the non-consumable text inviting and open while the teacher can be as involved or un-involved as s/he needs to be. The Teacher's Guide lays out the framework, objectives, and progression of the course; it gives tips on evaluating and grading; it contains a year's worth of writing prompts; and it includes the lesson-by-lesson answer key and teaching notes that correspond to the student text. Whether the starting point is abject fear, mild indifference, or elated anticipation, this course is an enabler of great literary skill! Christian-based content throughout, no prerequisite required. - Zach

Non fiction writing is necessary in our modern world, and more than just college essays. Daily life requires us to communicate via email, text, letter and memo. also, Ms. Watson earned my trust with her literature curriculum.

Best writing curriculum out there! Very easy to use even for self-study by student, without group support. It's inexpensive, yet it's comprehensive, complete, well-written, captivating to its readers.

Researched online looking for writing curriculum that my son would be able to do independently and this meant that need. Also saw Jump In book at previous homeschool conference at the Rainbow booth.

Jump In, her first writing book, fit my high school student well. He gained confidence, is now more interested in writing. Without confidence and interest a student rarely moves forward. I am hoping for the same this year with Power In Your Hands.
Claudia E on Aug 12, 2016
