Product Description:

The full color Student Text offers a thorough study of Euclidean geometry beginning with an introduction to geometry then topics builds incrementally nature of deductive reasoning, lines & angles, congruence, inequalities, parallel lines, quadrilaterals, transformations, area, similarity, right triangle, circles, concurrence theorems, regular polygons and the circle, geometric solids, and non-Euclidean Geometries. Each chapter ends with review and a midterm and final review. For every lesson, there are three sets of exercises all three practice the concepts presented, but the third set may offer a bit more challenge. Each exercise assumes knowledge gained in previous lessons in order to construct proofs. An appendix containing a glossary, all presented theorems, postulates, and formulas, and selected answers to exercises is most helpful.

Publisher Description:

Harold Jacobs' Geometry has been an authoritative standard for years, with nearly one million students having learned geometry principles through the text. Now revised with a daily schedule, the text is adaptable for either classroom or homeschool use. With the use of innovative discussions, cartoons, anecdotes, and vivid exercises, students will not only learn but will also find their interest growing with each lesson. The full-color student book focuses on guided discovery to help students develop geometric awareness. Geometry is all around us. Prepare to understand its dynamic influence so much better!

  • Student textbook includes easy-to-follow instruction and selected answers in the back
  • Lessons are divided into 16 chapters, covering deductive reasoning, congruence and similarity, transformations, coordinate geometry, area, geometric solids and non-Euclidean geometries, with helpful summaries and reviews.

Now in third edition and being published by Master Books, this newest version of Jacobs Geometry: Seeing, Doing, and Understanding preserves all the features that have made his text so popular with educators in the past. Like previous editions, this text stresses logic and deductive reasoning but does not take a "discovery" approach. This is an excellent geometry course with clear explanations of geometric concepts that include practice with proofs (informal and paragraph). Please note: instructional content of this version including answers and solutions is mostly identical to the content of the older, out-of-print version published by W. H. Freeman & Co.

The full color Student Text offers a thorough study of Euclidean geometry beginning with an introduction to geometry then topics builds incrementally - nature of deductive reasoning, lines & angles, congruence, inequalities, parallel lines, quadrilaterals, transformations, area, similarity, right triangle, circles, concurrence theorems, regular polygons and the circle, geometric solids, and non-Euclidean Geometries. Each chapter ends with review and a midterm and final review. For every lesson, there are three sets of exercises - all three practice the concepts presented, but the third set may offer a bit more challenge. Each exercise assumes knowledge gained in previous lessons in order to construct proofs. An appendix containing a glossary, all presented theorems, postulates, and formulas, and selected answers to exercises is most helpful.

A Teacher Guide includes a weekly lesson schedule with space to record the due date and grade, chapter tests, mid-term and final exam, and test answer keys. The Teacher Guide also includes reference pages that include a glossary, formulas, and postulates & theorems as presented by chapter.

The Solutions Manual is a big plus for this course! This book offers solutions (not just answers) for all exercises in each chapter, as well as chapter reviews and midterm and final review.

DVD Instruction is a wonderful tutorial taught by Dr. Dale Callahan. Using examples and illustrations, students will learn to write proofs and prove properties of geometric figures. The DVDs correspond to chapters 1-15 of the text, and there are five discs in the set. Students using this DVD set also have access to free homework help, via e-mail, from Dr. Callahan.

The Teacher Guide suggests that students will need a notebook and graph paper for use with the course, and the Dr. Callahan DVD (Disc 1, introduction) suggests that you will need a protractor, compass, straight edge, and calculator for the course. Dr. Callahan's suggestion is that, at minimum, you should have a scientific calculator with SIN and COSIN, but if you are going on in math, a graphing calculator (TI89) is preferred.

For thorough preparation for the ACT, SAT, and future math courses, this geometry course has the bases covered. ~ Donna

Geometry: Seeing, Doing and Understanding Text Third Edition (My Father's World printing)
Geometry: Seeing, Doing and Understanding Text Third Edition (My Father's World printing)
BEST ANSWER: You are correct. The current publisher is Master Books but the course was also recently published by My Father's World. Prior to that the course was published by Freeman. The instructional content has remained the same throughout the publisher moves. However, the covers and internal graphics have changed. There has also been changes in the location of support material - teacher's, tests, answer keys. In the Master Books version the Teacher Guide includes a weekly lesson schedule with space to record the due date and grade, chapter tests, mid-term and final exam, and test answer keys. The Teacher Guide also includes reference pages that include a glossary, formulas, and postulates & theorems as presented by chapter. The Solutions Manual offers solutions (not just answers) for all exercises in each chapter, as well as chapter reviews and midterm and final review.
I've seen 3 different cover pictures for the 3rd edition of this text. The bee hive, a chess board, & one with geometry tools. All are marked 3rd edition. What is the difference?
A shopper on Nov 28, 2017
BEST ANSWER: The difference is the publisher. The graphics will vary among the texts but the instructional content and exercises are the same. The bee hive is published by Master Books (current publisher). The chess board was published by Freeman (and is currently out of print). The geometry tools was published by My Father's World and is currently out of print - although we have a limited number still available).
