Publisher Description:

Logic is foundational for helping students excel in every subject they study, from math and science to rhetoric and humanities. Completely revised and expanded, the Introductory Logic DVD course will teach students eighth grade and up the fundamentals of thinking well. This course isn't just a supplement for a logic class -- it brings a skilled logician with more than twenty years of teaching experience right into your home. This DVD walks you through every lesson in the bestselling Introductory Logic textbook: definitions, logical statements, fallacies, syllogisms, and much more, not to mention practice tests and other helps for those learning at home. Enjoy!

Four dual-layer DVDs. Running time: 9+ hours.

Every person should have a course in logic at some point. It is important for children to be prepared to argue logically, defend their positions, and spot fallacies. The only thing more frustrating than knowing your opponent is wrong is to have to combat a well-constructed, logical argument when you are unable. There is no real defense against sound logic and thinking. Many logic books are written at too high a level for younger students to comprehend. Canon Press says this course is written for primary and secondary students. Cathy Duffy, however, says the content is beyond typical high-school-level material. I have looked through this book and found it simpler to use and understand than the course I had in high school. I would hope that my 12 year olds could handle it without much difficulty. It is a complete and fairly rigorous course, and is from a Christian perspective. The course builds from basic to more complex, giving students the tools they need, with good examples along the way. Exercises teach logical statements, truth and validity, universals and particulars, categorized relationships, syllogism, logical fallacy, symbolic logic, and much more. The newest version of the course includes 36 lessons (with 39 consumable exercises). Definitions of important terms, key points, and caution signs regarding common errors are set apart in the margins of the text. The Student Text begins with a section on defining terms, which lays the foundation for the lessons that follow. The book has a new cover, perfect binding, and has perforated exercise pages for easy removal. The Teacher Edition includes both full-year and semester lesson schedules; answers to all exercises, review exercises, quizzes and tests; the entire content of the Student Text; and detailed daily lesson plans with teacher's notes. The DVD Set includes lessons from Brian Kohl who has taught at the high school and college levels. The Homeschool Package contains the Student Text, Teacher Edition, Test & Quiz Packet, and DVD Set. Make Introductory Logic one of their required courses and arm them for battle!

Approximately, how long are the individual lessons on the DVD? Does the time in each DVD lesson greatly vary or generally stay about the same? Hard to know if we'll be watching for an hour or ten minutes, which makes it hard to plan on how much time to devote a day...Thanks!!
A shopper on Jun 3, 2021
BEST ANSWER: These are all pretty short 5 minutes or so. They are basically going over the lesson...we found them very helpful, especially for visual and auditory learner.
Is this the 2019 edition of the DVDS? By Brian Kohl?
A shopper on Sep 16, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Yes, currently we do have the 2019 edition of these DVDs.
Is this the 5th edition 2019 that was released May 8?
User on Jun 18, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Looking at mine, it is the 5th edition, but it was not released in 2019, but rather in 2014. It does appear to be the latest edition (unless they have used the same cover for a new 2019 edition.)
Can this DVD be viewed in Australia?
A shopper on Oct 7, 2018
BEST ANSWER: This DVD is marked "Region 0" so it is playable in all regions. So, yes, you should be able to view it in Australia.
Hi there. Is this the 4th or 5th edition?
A shopper on Mar 1, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Introductory Logic: Fundamentals of Thinking Well is the 5th edition.
Can students just watch the dvd and read their text or does the parent have to teach?
A shopper on May 28, 2017
BEST ANSWER: The DVDs are a fantastic resource and go through the book lesson by lesson to clarify the material. As a parent-teacher, I used the DVDs so I could better understand the material and help my child. A student could do the same, but Logic is challenging (at least, the second book was), and I can't imagine many students younger than 15 tackling this material alone without a parent to answer questions. That being said, I certainly wouldn't have my student attempt the course on his own WITHOUT the DVDs.
what edition is this dvd?
A shopper on Mar 15, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Edition information is not listed either on the DVDs or the packaging for this DVD. However, the copyright date is 2013. We are using these DVDs with the latest version of the Introductory Logic textbook (Fifth Edition-published 2014).

Logic Dvd’s were a must for us!
The DVD’s have so beneficial for us and homeschooling! For me, teaching Logic was very difficult, as I couldn’t make sense of the information for myself. Using the DVD’s with the teacher going over the lesson has made this so much more simple for us!!

I had heard that these DVDs were mostly the author reading the text We have found that NOT to be true We have the updated 2013 version We have watched Lessons 27-29 and the explanations were clear and included information that was not in our text (4th Edition) Watching Lesson 29 cleared up a major confusion that we were having The lessons also include review of important concepts from previous chapters That is particularly helpful because this curriculum builds upon itself We have found these DVDs to be very helpful

The Introductory Logic course from Logos gives a good solid intro to the subject matter however I found the DVD's to be a waste of money The instructor simply gives the lesson almost word for word from the student manual with no clarifications or additional illustrations It is dry boring low quality and adds nothing to the quality of the course content or students learning experience
