Publisher's Description of Magnatab Numbers & Shapes

The Original Magnatab was designed with the Montessori learning style in mind, creating a sensory-based learning experience. Using the magnetic stylus, children follow the arrows to pull the beads up to the surface to make numbers and shapes. In doing this, they feel the pull of the magnets, hear their clicking sound, and see what they are drawing. The beads are magically "erased" when pushed down by the tip of a finger or the swipe of the side of the stylus. The tablet features easy storage for the magnetic stylus, which clicks securely into place. Great for use at home or in the classroom! Measures 7.5? x 9? x .75?.

Category Description for Magnatab Tablet & Magnetic Pens

Learning to write letters and numbers can present challenges to children. Keeping your paper perfectly in place, coordinating how to hold a pencil and making sure your letters all fit neatly between the lines frequently adds stress to a learning activity that can be enjoyable. These unique magnetic tablets are a perfect manipulative for children who are overwhelmed by all the details of handwriting or a younger child who is beginning to develop the necessary motor skills to prepare them for handwriting. The tablets are constructed of a heavy duty plastic that is both PVC and BPA free. Encased inside the Magnatab tablet are small magnets which are easily manipulated by the included magnetic stylus to form the letter/number being learned. The concept is similar to that of the Magnadoodles of yesteryear, but with small magnet balls rather than magnet dust. The boards are easily "erased" with just a touch of your finger. The A to Z print letter board measure 13"x20", the cursive boards measure approx. 11.5" x 9.5", and the number board (0-9) measures approximately 7 1/2" x 6".

Each letter/number board offers easy to follow directional arrows ensuring children learn proper formation. My only caveat with the directional arrows is that some of the letter formations may represent a more complicated pattern than you may be teaching your child. For example, the uppercase letter "M" - Directional arrow 1 is down; directional arrow #2 is the other end of the "M" and also is taught "top to bottom." The middle of the letter M is then taught from left to right, top to bottom. The methodology taught is not inaccurate. In fact, I would suggest it is a more traditional method than the current "mountain" teaching for the letter "M" - "Top of the mountain, down the hill, up the hill and down the mountain" which allows the pencil to stay on the paper.

The Free Play board allows children to create any letter, shape, or drawing they would like through the use of this unique magnetic system. It would also be beneficial for a child who struggles to write out math problems, as they could utilize it for doing one-step problems. Measures approximately 6" x 7.5".

Hands-on learning at it's finest! Magnatab tablets are portable, lightweight and easy for children of all ages to use. ~Deanne
