Product Description:

Every state differs in its requirements for drivers under 18, and whether your children are taking driver's education in a school or at home, chances are they need to log in quite a few hours of driving time with you before they can attain a license. The author of this book has spent years educating parents and teens about driver's education and understands that classes taken in a public school system or private driver's school are too often incomplete and "skimpy" and that the best method for keeping your son or daughter safe on the road is the complete attention and instruction that comes from the person most concerned about them - you. The lessons are split up into sections geared towards both the parents and the teens. The parents section is devoted to imparting the vital information they will need to make sure to pass on to their teens every lesson, and how to teach some of the concepts while the teens section is geared more to them, and emphasizes important driving themes. In general, the parent's section tends to include more details and history, as well as a list of many things they will need to watch for and keep track of during the lessons, while the teen's section is more highly readable, simplified, and tends to focus more on certain concepts. After the section on getting started and the first day of driving instruction, the chapters launch into "10 Steps of Basic Skills". In these ten lessons, important themes such as basic moves, stop and go driving, night driving, getting up to highway speeds, bad weather, heavy traffic and more are covered. Following these basic and information-packed lessons, the final chapter is devoted to attaining the license, and also contains information on giving the teen "post-license check-ups" to keep posted on their driving skills, encouragement for parents to still be able to say "no" if they have doubts about their teen's driving ability or purpose, and helps on how to pick out the right car for their teen driver, if that is a future possibility. Other helpful information, as well as a 10-page driving log for recording all their hours behind the wheel are included at the end. Spiral-bound, and about the size of your average car owner's manual in page size, the lessons are easy to carry with you whether in the house or on the road. - Jess
