Chronicles of Narnia Collector's Edition CDs

We absolutely love these audio dramas of the Chronicles of Narnia. They stick to the books very well and are very well done-- infinitely better than any movie versions of there. We had borrowed them from a library and listened through twice; we had to get our own copies. Wonderful for listening to in the van. They are the next best thing to reading the books out loud!
Our only qualm is David Suchet's depiction of Aslan--too harsh/ almost angry/ over the top.

We gather together as a family and really enjoyed listening to this story. Such excitement to move onto the next CD. The voice of Aslan was not what we expected his voice to sound like, but it wasn’t enough to diminish the overall quality.

This is absolutely one of the best audio dramatizations that we have listened to. Our entire family has enjoyed these stories in the van multiple times over. They are very high quality, engaging, and full of thought-provoking ideas. They are ripe with humor, suspense, and adventure. These are easily one of the best homeschooling 'extras' that we have invested in.

For us a vacation or long drive would not be the same without this wonderful audio drama set! It is obvious that the producers took painstaking care to make this a true movie-quality production just without providing the visuals The many voice actors are top-notch the orchestral score is stirring the narration is just wonderful and matches the "tone" of the stories perfectly And of course the stories are faithful to Lewis' work although slightly tweaked in places to fit the audio format I must admit that when we first listened to these CDs it took a while for me to get accustomed to the voice of Aslan because I had the voice of Liam Neeson as "movie Aslan" in my head But now I see the beauty of David Suchet's very unique portrayal and how he has captured the character of Aslan with all of his joy and mystery and goodness Our family delights in these stories with each of us having our favorite My husband loves hearing the emotion and turmoil as the Black Knight in "The Silver Chair" begs to be released from his enchantment Our daughter especially enjoys this version of "The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe" Strangely I have come to really love what had previously been my least-favorite of the Chronicles ("The Horse and His Boy") because of these audio dramas as the story finally came alive for me While listening to these dramas I have wept burst into laughter trembled in trepidation held my breath in wide-eyed anticipation and triumphantly rejoiced as truths about our own real life Savior are revealed through Lewis' storytelling All of the stories retain the flavor and heart of his books and it is interesting to hear Douglas Gresham (Lewis' stepson) as he briefly introduces each tale with interesting recollections When I first bought this set I could never have imagined the part it would play in our family's life as a backdrop to our own vacations and adventures This will be a family favorite for years to come and I can imagine our daughter sharing these stories with her own children somedayAt over 22 hours of exceedingly high quality audio drama this set is a great value for any family who loves The Chronicles of Narnia or even those who are enjoying these tales for the very first time The boxed set is compact and beautifully packaged It is also rather sturdy as we have had it bouncing along in the back seat of our car for thousands of miles of traveling!

The dramatized Chronicles of Narnia was one of the best 'extras' that we got for our school year I've read the Narnia books aloud to my kids we've listened to the audiobooks from the library and we've watched the three new Narnia movies so we are very familiar with the stories These CDs are wonderful! They are accurate to what CS Lewis wrote and include most of the details of the stories They have interesting little introductions by CS Lewis' stepson The sound effects and different voices for the different characters help the stories to come alive like the movies and with a narrator they maintain the feel of good literature I love the 'liony' voice of Aslan! The themes and adventure in the stories are enjoyed by everyone in the family from my husband and my older sons down to my 4-year-old daughter We listen in the car and we've listened to several of the stories 3 times now! They are so moving that they just don't get old for us like some audiobooks would! I'm so glad that even with a local library full of audiobooks we got these for our own personal collection
