Product Description:

The 40X-400X microscope is a great option for elementary students and it has two sources of LED lighting, top and bottom. The bottom light allows you to view slides and other transparent objects, and the top light allows you to view solid or opaque objects - you can see Lincoln on the back of a penny, sitting inside the Lincoln Memorial! Students can view objects on a 90mm² at 40, 100, and 400 magnifications. Other features include spring mounted stage clips, a .65 fixed condenser, and a 6-hole disc diaphragm that offers 5 filter colors and one clear hole for varied viewing. There is no fine focus knob (coarse focus only), the knob turns a bit stiffly, and it doesn't have a slip clutch. This model can be operated by an AC 110V-240V adaptor or by 2 AA batteries; the lights do burn brighter when the microscope is plugged in.

Publisher Description:

The MS-040, 40-400X Microscope is an entry-level Biological Microscope that is ideal for a student or family. The Microscope has a monocular head, at 45 degree angle for comfortable viewing, and is rotatable 360 degrees for easy sharing of the specimen view. Illumination is provided by two bright white LED sources (transmission and reflection) which allow viewing of wide range of transparent to opaque specimens. It features a filter wheel with 5 color options. The included AC power adaptor allows for use internationally without the need for a voltage transformer.

Category Description for Biological Table-Top Microscopes:

Always on the lookout for good, quality microscopes, we have found another option. Carson Optical has provided an affordable line of durable, well-built microscopes for use at the elementary and high school levels. Both have a sleek gunmetal gray finish on a cast metal construction, 10X widefield eyepiece, 360° rotatable eyepiece, instruction manual, and LED illumination with dimmer switches. One feature not included on this series is the built-in pointer. Some folks will appreciate this because they feel it gets in the way of their viewing, others will miss it because they feel it pinpoints the specimen being viewed.

There are some differences between these and other microscopes. The 40X-400X microscope is great for elementary students and features two sources of sources of LED lighting, top and bottom. The bottom light allows you to view slides and other transparent objects, and the top light allows you to view solid or opaque objects - you can see Lincoln on the back of a penny, sitting inside the Lincoln Memorial! The 100X-1000X also has some differences; there is no 40X magnification and the microscope is corded; there is no battery option.

Carson Optical has been in the business of quality optics for over 20 years, and the expansion into microscopes is a good one. They offer affordable options for your educational needs. ~ Donna

Does this item come with slides?
Zacharias Katumb on Feb 12, 2019
BEST ANSWER: No, we bought slides separately.
Will be using this to view prepared anatomy slides, skin, hair, etc. will it do the job?
A shopper on Apr 19, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Yes, you should be able to view the slides with this scope. The magnification is high school level but it lacks the fine focus typically found on high school microscopes.
