Category Description for English From the Roots Up II:

For everyone out there who loves English from the Roots Up, here is another dose! This book introduces 100 new root words - 67 Latin and 33 Greek - with English derivatives for you to teach to your students. Because these words are a little more advanced than those in the first volume, the authors encourage you to complete the first volume before beginning this one. Having used the first volume provides students with a firm foundation for beginning this more advanced study, although if you want to you can begin here. This sequel is extremely similar in appearance to its predecessor. - Melissa

These cards were recomended by Andrew Puduwa of IEW (Institute for Excellence in Writing). On one side of the card is a Latin or Greek; on the back of each card is a list of English words that are derived from the roots. It helps to expand my children's vocabulary quickly because so many words are related.

I found Vol. 2 of this curriculum at a used bookstore and after looking through it was "sold!" I am now buying Volume 1 and the word cards for both Vol. 1 & Vol. 2 because I feel like the cost is worth the time saved in making my own. This is a great resource!

We used this curriculum years ago and quit using it after 6 months because writing each card was such a daunting task. This reduces busy time work and leaves more time for learning the root and doing activities to apply it to other studies.

I have used volume 1 with 2 students with great success. Each week they study the flashcards and take a test at the end. Great format. I have not used the workbooks.

I have set one and was surprised that there weren't more correlations between the Latin and Greek roots. This prompted me to order the second set because I was hoping to get more matches- unfortunately not the case. In fact there were doubles from the first set. Would like to return but probably won't take the time to do so.

Love these cards They are generously-sized with easy-to-read fonts They are a good supplement for vocabulary building The only downside to these cards is that they are made of a rather flimsy card stock You will have to laminate them yourself if you want them to last for years
