It is well reviewed as a sturdy play shield and this is the cheapest price. I owe it to my brother after I gave his son those nerf swords last year.

While the durability and price of these shields aren't nearly as good as the swords (e.g., the strap hardware will likely need to be upgraded/replaced), the fact remains that shields are an indispensable tool on the battlefield, and kids really do love these. Shields offer an additional dimension to combat that keeps things more interesting and balanced.

I already gave my 4 year old grandson a set of the whombatz swords which he loves. He'll definitely love the matching shields!

Fun but the strap handles are a problem
This foam shield is fun. The foam is dense and construction feels high quality.
The handles are a source of three separate problems. 1 - they are held on with metal bolts, which seems like a small safety issue, when the rest of the shield is foam.
2 - they are fixed at a single, small size. There is no way to adjust them for larger or smaller users. They are too big but OK for my kids. I, a smallish adult male, can barely fit my arm in them.
3 - they are for left hands only. Left-handers, who want their sword in their left hand and shield in right, could use them, but would have to hold the shield upside down.

Great idea and the boys are having fun! We did have an instance of one if the handles coming unscrewed but it was easy enough to fasten back.

Upgraded Hardware
The shield shown here uses the old hardware, which was like a rivet (and it often failed). The shields I received are actually a newer version that uses nuts/bolts/washers instead of the rivet. It's not as elegant as the rivets, but it's much more durable. The only downside is the nuts protruding on the back side, but they are rounded and I doubt they pose any significant hazard. Nevertheless, the new hardware feels like a bit of a hack job. It's essentially off-the-shelf industrial-grade hardware on a children's toy, and it looks out of place. I appreciate the improved durability, but there's definitely room for improvement regarding the aesthetic.

Strong and sturdy!
Strong sturdy, and yet soft all at the same time. My four boys love using their Whombatz swords and shields, and I am happy knowing they won't get hurt.

Handles broke off during first use
We purchased one shield for each of our four boys. The first day they used their shields, the grommets that held the handles on broke off. This happened to all 4 shields! We were very disappointed, especially given the price off the shields. Thankfully, my husband is handy and was able to fix them with bolts, nuts and washers. They are holding up nicely now.
