Category Description for Writing Skills Practice

These materials provide practice for developing individual skills necessary to writing rather than focusing on the work as a whole.

Writing and grammar are areas in which many students need additional practice. This supplement adds grammar & writing in one section, and vocabulary and figurative language in another section. The exercises have three parts: learn, practice, and your turn. I liked the variety in the pages. Some have graphic organizers or graphics, but there is a nice amount of white space on each page. There are some activities that refer to group work as if in a classroom, but a parent can modify this for at-home learning. You could use an activity as a daily warm-up for language arts, or use one along side your curriculum for additional practice and an alternative example. It could make for a good summer review as well. The books do align to grade level standards (listed in the back). Reproducible for a single classroom/family. Sample answers are in the back of the book. ~Sara
