Publisher Description:

Although Earth is mostly made up of igneous and metamorphic rock, sedimentary rock covers about 75 percent of Earth's land surface. This means it's the most visible kind of rock on Earth. Sedimentary rocks form when sediment accumulates and compacts. Your readers will learn how sedimentary rocks form, the different types of sedimentary rocks, and how people use sedimentary rocks. Fun fact boxes provide readers with additional information. A helpful diagram illustrates how sedimentary rocks form.

Why did you choose this?
Rainbow Resource Center Store
Science is not my favorite subject; therefore, I do not get excited about doing experiments. I selected this CD in order to help my children in their experiments and to get them excited about science in a way that I could not. By the way...it has been a huge blessing.

I needed them to work on their own this year.

My seventh graders have a hard time reading and staying attentive to large amounts of text, so I want to have it read to them and a bit of structure laid out for them. I will do the planning, due dates, help with questions/labs, and grading, but I did not want to read every word of the book aloud when there is a tool that can do that for me. :)

Hoping it will make the science more fun than just reading the book!

Purchased so it would lighten my teaching load.

I wanted a science teacher explaining the concepts I may not understand. My son wants to be an engineer and he needs a good foundation in science.

Can this be used with the first edition textbook?
A shopper on Dec 31, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Our texbook doesn't say which edition it is, so I'm guessing it is a first edition? It lists both 1999 and 2000 as copyright years. The DVD works fine with their textbook. Sometimes the review and test questions are not in the exact same order, but we can usually figure out what is needed. Hope this helps.
I noticed the only review is critical. Is this worth the investment?

BEST ANSWER: My kids and I have enjoyed the Apologia Science books and I thought the DVD would be helpful for my middle schoolers working on their science independently. I purchased the DVD also thinking that it would help my kids understand the chapters. While it's informative, they found the presentation of the lesson to be a bit boring and unengaging. It's basically a power point presentation with voice over. They'd listen for a while and then lose interest and become distracted. We only used the DVD for about the first few modules and my kids just preferred to read the lessons on their own. We didn't even use it for the labs, for which the the DVD will walk you through, since my kids just preferred to read through it themselves. I wish I could have viewed a sample of the DVD before I purchased it because I don't think I would have purchased it.
I have a dyslexic child who reads very slowly. I am wondering if the entire text is read to the child?
A shopper on Jun 1, 2016
BEST ANSWER: No it isn't. It is a very good instructor going over the material and using the text as a guide, but explaining it more with added examples. Hope that helps.

Terrible
I could not find a preview of this material anywhere before purchasing it. The speaker is choppy and monotone. The material is not only dry but a complete repeat of the textbook set in power point. I would not recommend spending $100 on this.

Be sure to note this is NOT a DVD it is a CD-ROM with wmv files that will only play on a computer It is nothing more than an amateur voice recording behind a Power Point slide show and home-movie-like demonstrations of the experiments Do not waste your money!
