Featuring the same methodology as previous editions plus enhanced mathematical content, Homeschool Kits contain a non-consumable student edition textbook, consumable tests and worksheets for one student, and a solutions manual. All three components of the Homeschool Kit come softbound. The Student Edition Text uses a two-color page layout, as opposed to the black and white pages of prior editions. Tests and Worksheets include a significant amount of fact drill practice, course tests, as well as various forms for recording student progress. Solutions Manual contains solutions to all problems in the text and tests.

Category Description for Saxon Math:

Students like Saxon because they feel successful in math instead of overwhelmed.

The most popular homeschooling math program hands down! Highly recommended by both Mary Pride and Cathy Duffy, Saxon Math also wins our award for the "Most Requested Text." Saxon math is a "user-friendly" math program - even for Algebra, Trigonometry, Calculus and other usually difficult math topics. Learning is incremental and each new concept is continuously reviewed, so the learning has time to "sink in" instead of being forgotten when the next topic is presented. Higher scores on standardized tests and increased enrollments in upper-level math and science classes have resulted where Saxon has been used in public schools. Students like Saxon because they feel successful in math instead of overwhelmed. Because of the format, children are able to work more independently.

We love Saxon math. The spiral method works great for our kids and they learn their math well. The lessons are written in an easy-to-understand way that makes it easy for my kids to work independently.
Sandy M on Mar 10, 2021
I allow the kids to write their answers in the work book since I'm on the last two kids in these books and its easier to keep track of everything. <br />Used Saxon for the past 18 years and they've worked well.

An excellent tight spiral curiculum that provides daily, incremental review and the best feature of saxon is that every problem the student works has a refrence next to the problem referring to what section that material was presented in so student can go back and review if she needs to.

Because it's the best math curriculum that I have found, and it's NOT Common Core. My kids have always been strong in their math skills thanks to this program, and I've always loved math, so I'm thrilled.

I have found over the years that Saxon Math provides the best balance between conceptual and mechanical learning of math. It is the best!
Deborah on Nov 17, 2015
Saxon Math is straight forward, old fashioned teaching and learning, at a very affordable price. The repetition really helps cement in the math concepts. It also cuts through all of the cutesy, "fun" distractions that I see in a lot of teaching materials. I don't just want my children to have a "good school experience", I want them to have a proper education. Saxon math really provides a good, solid math foundation without all the frustration.
Dana S on Oct 23, 2015
We currently use Saxon Math as a supplement to our current curriculum. I feel it is very thorough.

Is this common core based?
A shopper on Aug 15, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Saxons homeschool edition has purposefully stayed true to the classical model. This does not mean Saxon misses information that the common core has, it just has not aligned their content of the common core. Saxon is a complete curriculum that will give a extremely solid foundation. Each lesson contains mental math problems, a new concept with practice, and a mixed practice, which includes problems from many of the past lessons, keeping those concepts fresh in the student’s minds and cementing the skill through repetition over a long period of time. We love it.
How long does it take to complete a lesson?
A shopper on Oct 5, 2016
BEST ANSWER: If you are considering all the parts-mental math, lesson teaching, lesson practice, and mixed practice and fact sheet I would plan a good hour or more. Just teaching the new material can be done in as little as 5 mins to around 20 mins. depending on how much help your student needs.

Not a Good Fit
We have used Saxon for 6 years and it’s definitely a solid program, but I dreaded math everyday. It’s so long and takes so much time as the teacher/Mom that it was overwhelming to me as my 3rd child needed help and then the checking. For my sanity I had to break up with Saxon and admit that even though people say it’s the best, it want a good fit for our family. We now use Teaching Textbooks online which teaches the lesson, checks their work, and keeps track of scores...all without needing me. We all enjoy this new found independence! Try it and see!
