Category Description for Anne of Green Gables DVDs:

Anne Shirley is an outspoken, adventurous orphan with a temper as fiery as her red hair - which she loathes. When a misunderstanding lands Anne on the doorstep of Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert, she falls in love with them and their home at once. In Anne of Green Gables, Anne arrives at the Cuthberts, where she'll have to convince them to let her stay, despite the misadventures she constantly gets herself into. In the sequel, Anne has matured - although she is still quite outspoken and adventurous! - into a young woman. Anne has moved away from Green Gables and is teaching at a school for girls. In the Continuing Story, Anne moves to New York, where she meets city life head on. Her story also follows the war effort in Europe, and eventually Anne ends up once again on Prince Edward Island.

After my (then five year old) daughter and I listened to an audio adaptation of LM Montgomery's book by the same title I was delighted to find this movie I was curious how closely it would follow the story and indeed it was close enough that differences were not a distraction This movie quickly became a family favorite as it is sweet sad dramatic funny and highly enjoyable There is no truly objectionable content to speak of although of course Anne gets into some awkward situations (such as accidentally intoxicating her friend flying into a tirade at a lady who referred to her hair as being the color of carrots etc) One thing I like about these events is that Anne must face consequences of poor choices and rash decisions This movie is pleasantly re-watchable although lengthy We don't mind the length personally we all find this movie to be relaxing Even after many watchings I still cry at certain scenes and still laugh at others and we all find ourselves quoting Anne I can highly recommend this film although the following movies "The Sequel" and "The Continuing Story" deviate wildly from the original stories and I found them to be immensely frustrating This first one however captures the true sweet and whimsical feel of Anne with wonderful acting from all the characters The character of Matthew Cuthbert is a particular gem It is amazing to watch young Anne grow and mature during this movie with the same actress portraying her across the years An excellent family film!

This is one of the sweetest movies you will ever see! If you love Anne of Green Gables books-you cannot miss out on this wonderful movie! It is my 9 yr old daughter's favorite movie and at 33 it's mine too! They did a wonderful job of staying true to the book and the perfect actress was chosen to portray Anne (can't forget the E!) We have watched this one over and over and never tire of it Like the wonderful books by LM Montgomery this movie is a classic in it's own right If you love Anne you'll love this movie!
