Category Description for Pattern Block Trays:

Triangular and hexagonal trays to hold pattern blocks for children to experiment and build mosaic designs. Though restrictive in that they form an outside design border, the advantage is that the blocks stay put. We tested these with our old set of wooden pattern blocks. The triangular tray worked alright, though it was a little tight. Working with the hexagonal tray was frustrating! After many unsuccessful attempts at jamming the last few blocks in, we got the bright idea of switching to plastic blocks. You know, that little bit of paint really makes a difference! We found that the .5 cm plastic blocks worked the best; we had no trouble with these. The blocks slid right in and were a pleasure to work with. So, if you have plastic pattern blocks - these will be a great addition! (The set of 250 blocks works better than a set of 100, as you have more blocks to work with). If not, and you like the concept, you'll have to invest in a set of plastic blocks to use them. My testers (Stephen and Janine) kept at it for hours!

I already have the hexagon trays for pattern blocks. I thought the triangle trays would be fun for the kids to try also.

BEST ANSWER: Yes! They fit nicely inside! We never filled our hexagon completely, though. (We don't own a triangle.)

My kids love these! My 2 sons ages 4 and 5 have been experimenting with all of the different patterns they can make on the triangular and hexagonal trays with our set of 250 plastic pattern blocks We also have some papers with animals and other designs to put the pattern blocks on top of and I encourage them to experiment on their own but these trays hold the pattern blocks where they are put and there is so much less frustration for little fingers! My 4-year-old will sit quietly for an hour making a beautiful and symmetrical design and then beg for it to be put somewhere safe so he can show his dad later When working directly on the table he often ends up in tears because the pieces just do not stay where he puts them Even my 2-year-old can fill in the empty space of the tray though her designs are not symmetrical yet For anyone investing in pattern blocks this just makes them so much more fun and versatile! I even enjoy making a design to show the kids which they study and then dump out to try to do themselves!
