I have a class of students that are Cognitively Impaired. When they can hold their own map in their hands and find locations that they have only heard the names they show a sense of pride and accomplishment. With it being laminated it will last throughout the years. I have been working on placemats that are from 1984. The world has definitely changed since then.

Are these laminated to use a dry erase marker on?

BEST ANSWER: They are laminated. In my experience dry erase does not wipe off of laminated items unless they are specifically ‘wipe and write.’ I’ve not tried dry erase. We have used the wet erase vis a vis markers.

BEST ANSWER: I am fairly certain these maps are up-to-date. South Sudan appears as its own country. I know the Serbo-Croatia area had a change within the last five years, but those countries are so teeny they are not labelled.

PLacemat Map
My 11 year-old grandson has thanked me at least a dozen times for this gift. Each time he has drawn my attention to a particular place that he has located on the map after learning about it at school, hearing about it on the news, or reading about it in a book. His delight in understanding its place in the world and his relationship to it is very real to him and heartwarming to me. The world can use as many caring and involved citizens as it can get!
