We've been informed that even the 2yr old household members of Homeschooling families are enjoying and learning with La Clase Divertida Spanish Curriculum!

A Complete Children's Conversational/Cultural Spanish Language Instruction Program! The Level 1 kit is the first level of a three level Spanish Language Instruction series. Upon completing the approximate three years of La Clase Divertida Level 1, Level 2, and Level 3 (with individual conversational mastery considered) this curriculum in total, introduces approximately the same material and practical skill level as a High School Spanish 1 Conversation class.

Category Description for La Clase Divertida:

Whenever someone asks for "fun" Spanish, I steer them to Clase Divertida. The video lessons, songs, craft projects, use of Spanish names and cultural/geographic content makes for an action packed lesson for parent and teachers to do with their students. Yes, you will be doing Spanish together. No, you don't have to know Spanish. Not crafty? It's ok, the videos teach the art projects. This is a program you can do. Your kids will look forward to their Spanish lessons every week! Each level includes DVD(s) with all 15 lessons being taught by Senor Gamache, an audio CD with pronunciation practice and songs, teacher's manual, 2 consumable student workbooks, and craft supplies for 2 students.  The teacher manual suggests how to do a little bit of Spanish every day, spending 10 days with the content from 1 lesson. It sounds like a lot, but it is very simple to do and the repetition is then your scripted Spanish practice for the day. The student workbooks have exercises that reinforce the material learned in the video lessons, and there are flashcards to cut out and use for your practice time too. There is a cooking project in each lesson that you will have to get supplies for, but items should be a most grocery stores. As the teacher, read the lesson and gather any materials you need for your lesson beforehand. There is some Christian content in each level, though I would not call it an overtly Biblical curriculum.

Here are some highlights from the various levels. LEVEL 1: (1 DVD) names, vowels, Mexican flag craft, colors, fried plantains, alphabet, puppet stories, map of Mexico, galletas de boda, body parts, yarn craft, counting to 10, quesadillas, question words, animals, tissue paper flower, fried ice cream, pi?ata, family members, and it all comes in a black, canvas zippered bag. LEVEL 2: (2 DVDs) map of Spain, Spanish coat of arms, puppet story of Don Quixote, spelling names, review numbers, telling time, make gazpacho, seasons, months, birthdays, make castanets, weather, holidays, make paella, Columbus/Queen Isabella/King Ferdinand, ordinal numbers, las torrijas, decorate tiles, animals, restaurant, fan craft, make a pi?ata and a flan, all in a nice, red zipper bag. LEVEL 3: (includes 3 DVDs and a Spanish/English dictionary) formal/informal, regular verbs, house vocabulary, dialogue to memorize, numbers to 1000, que?, pottery craft, more conversation, noun/adjective agreement, Central America map/flags, pastel de tres leches, Caribbean countries, cooking plantains, Panama canal, mola craft, Cuban sandwich, friendship bracelet, baseball, drinks, guitar, and make a pi?ata, all in a blue canvas zipper bag.

Extra student packs include all consumable materials needed for 1 extra student. You want each child to have their own supplies for sure, sharing would not be a fun experience. There is a workbook, any additional activity pages and craft supplies to make all crafts in that level. You can also choose these materials with an additional audio CD, which is great option for a classroom or co-op group so that students can practice at home between instructional times. ~Sara

I really liked this kit for not just learning the language but learning about the culture. My kiddos also love crafting and are into cooking as well. It just seemed a good fit for my kids. I think we're going to have a lot of fun.

Wondering if this is Spain Spanish or Latin American Spanish? I'm looking for Latin American.
SARA on Jun 15, 2021
BEST ANSWER: I believe it is Latin American.
Hi, I am purchasing the Curriculum Kit Level 1 for 2 students. Does the kit bring all supplies needed for both students or will I need to purchase an additional student pack? Thanks!
A shopper on Nov 13, 2020
BEST ANSWER: You will have enough for 2 students. The kit is actually designed for three students.
What is included?
Fawn on Mar 3, 2020
BEST ANSWER: I have loaned mine to a friend so can’t give a detailed answer, but basically everything you need. The DVD, teacher/ student book and all the craft supplies.
How long does each daily lesson take and how many lessons are there? Thanks!
A shopper on Aug 16, 2019
BEST ANSWER: The video lessons are about 20 mins each. There are 15 lessons and you are supposed to work on each one until the material is mastered (they plan for this being 2 weeks). The recommended schedule is working with the DVD every other day alternating it with flashcards, the workbook or project for that lesson. The time it takes for these varies.
What are the "system requirements" listed on the box? In other words, what operating system (for the computer) does this work with? For instance, Windows XP.
A shopper on Jul 7, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Hello, my Level 1 curriculum kit did not have any computer files included or needed. The printed, bound teachers' manual in the kit provides guidance on how the authors would recommend using their curriculum. Generally, you spend two weeks on one lesson, alternating between watching a DVD of the lessons and listening to a CD to reinforce the lessons. There are two copies of consumable student manuals, and there are craft/activity suggestions with some necessary supplies included. I'm using this with my young children, and so far we really enjoy it. Older chldren/adults may prefer to use a software-based course.
I would like to see an example of a lesson, is that available?. If I order this Level 1 and find it is to young for my 6 & 8th grader is it returnable ?
A shopper on Jul 7, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I'm sorry but we do not have sample pages beyond what you can see on the website. If you contact the consultants ( we may be able to help you further. The Level 1 program can be returned as long as it hasn't been written in or damaged and the electronic media has not been opened. We need to be able to re-sell it as new.

Great Spanish lessons, but culturally insensitive
The actual Spanish lessons were great, but I couldn't get past the cultural insensitivities. The attitude toward people of Latino decent was a little condescending. There were a few times I needed to stop the video and reframe the conversation and explain why we don't make caricatures of people's accents, etc. We stopped after the lesson on colors, when the teacher pointed out that the Spanish word for the color black is "negro," then pointed to an African American child in his classroom and said that "negro" was a word that is sometimes used to describe black people. We immediately stopped the video and I had a long discussion with my children about that word and its context in history and modern times. I'm really disappointed in this curriculum, as it has such great potential.

Needs to be modernized.
My daughter enjoys the songs and crafts but the religious element is quite prejudiced at times. I knew it wasn’t totally secular but a few of the comments made just aren’t right. I feel like this needs to be revamped and modernized. The songs and crafts are great and I would like it even more if comments made about religion were left out.

Far Exceeded Expectations
I'm a former high school Spanish teacher looking to teach Spanish to my oldest two (elementary age) children. I have tried other programs and haven't found a good fit until this one. It's a wonderful mix of culture and language. Sr. Gamache's teaching experience really shines through. There is enough repetition and review that non-Spanish speaking parents should not feel intimidated. The only negative I can think of is there could be more Spanish spoken. I'm not sure if this was done to prevent parents from being overwhelmed or if it's a reflection of prior methodology.

Interactive Spanish
This is a wonderful and interactive Spanish program. It is filled with songs, crafts and cooking activities. My kids really learned a lot from this. The songs are so catchy. The kids can't help but learn them.

I purchased this for my 4th grade and kindergarten student. (My 4 year old nephew also does the videos with us). I used curriculum last year that Wad not working. Learning a foreign language ought to be fun, especially at this age. The videos are good (a bit outdated but still good). The kids love the songs, they sing them all day long while playing and doing other homework as well. Why I didn't give it 5 stars...I took Spanish in college so have some working knowledge of the language, however I feel more information could have been put in the teachers Manual. For example, hand motions/English translation for the vocab song.

My family loves this program! We have finished level one and have just started level twoMy kids are in 3rd and 5th grades They love seeing kids their own ages on the dvds plus they love doing the cooking and crafts- and seeing Senor Gamache's dog in class All these things make the program very real and interesting for them Senor Gamache is very lively and fun- his love for children and Spanish is readily apparent We have tried other Spanish programs but none has this kind of pizzazzThis program is so much more than memorizing words and repeating them I would say it could work for just about any type of learner- visual auditory or kinesthetic There is so much to do see hear learn and singOne of the best parts is that I am learning Spanish right along with my kidsWe will definitely continue on with level three in the future!

I'm a single homeschool mom of 8 of which 5 are still being schooled Last year we began the La Clase Divertida for my 4 youngest students 8-12 What a blast! Even I was walking around singing the songs that went with the lessons The crafts are so fun and learning to make wedding cookies was yummy The only thing I would caution is it is too much fun and you will learn even if it is unintentional!

I knew that I wanted to teach my 6 year old Spanish but I was lacking any clear direction as to how I would go about doing that We started La Clase Divertida Level 1 in October and it quickly became a comfortable and enjoyable part of our homeschooling routine We follow the recommended schedule of alternating between the DVD and the CD each day for two weeks ending with a cooking activity or craft of some sort before moving on to the next lesson It is the perfect amount of time to spend on each lesson and I have found that my son (and I!) are learning very quickly! My 2 year old even sings some of the songs and he loves to watch the DVD! We especially love the cooking activities and find them to be a nice way to bring Mexican culture to life(You cover other Spanish-speaking cultures in the other levels) The preparation required for La Clase is minimal- if there is a craft or cooking segment you just need to be sure you have any extra materials/ingredients on hand Of course when learning a new language Practice is essential! So practice practice practice! Also while La Clase would be effective for the entire stated age range I have to agree that the older set might find the whole setup to be juvenile Look at it this way though- You and your child(ren) WILL learn Spanish from Senor Gamache and his students And it will seem effortless Plus if you ever have any concerns or questions during the course of using the curriculum you can always contact Senor Gamache I have exchanged emails with him on several occasions and he has always been very gracious and helpful You can't beat that kind of customer support!

This was even better than we anticipated! The DVDs have complete lessons that you watch over and over Although that can seem mundane it really isn't because it takes many times to master what they want you to learn and speak There is no teacher preparation although I would recommend watching this with your students -- I've only been watching periodically and they now speak better Spanish than I do! Everything you need comes with the kit (enough for two students which is wonderful!) We will be back for part 2!
