Publisher Description:

Nothing seems to capture the imagination of humankind quite like the ability to fly, and just over a hundred years ago, that dream became a reality. Over the last century, planes have progressed in ways that would astound their earliest makers, and flying machines continue to inspire wonder in passengers and viewers alike. Now Planes: A Complete History offers an exciting look at the most exemplary representations of innovation in aviation history in a fun and interactive two-part book. With 50 press-out models of historic and contemporary aircraft and a detachable history book that outlines the planes that represented exciting "firsts" in the field those that best represent the technology of their era and those that pushed the boundaries of what was possible this book both instructs and entertains. Most importantly, it leaves the airplane enthusiast with a virtual hangar of model planes.

A novel series of hands-on books for machine lovers! Each book contains 50 cardstock models to assemble. The top portion of each page features a historical overview and some highlights of the machine to construct, while the lower section contains the full color, punch-out pieces. A section in the back of each book has detailed assembly instructions for each model. Craft glue is required for all the models, and some younger builders may need a helping hand when trying to fit pieces together. The hours of model-building fun in each books will result in some very attractive little machines about 5-6 inches in length. - Zach

Time, Patience and and a good pair of Eyes or Glasses!
Initially before receiving this book, I was excited to find a book that teaches the history of planes along with the ability to construct a paper replica of each one for my homeschooler. This would allow the student to read and craft without adult help. Unfortunately, upon receipt of this book, I was disappointed in the amount of time and detail involved to create them. The instructions for each is somewhat confusing. The numbers are small and gluing has to be exact. My 11 year old couldn’t complete them without additional help with the instructions and diagrams. It would have been helpful to include individual steps, perhaps in the form of an PDF ebook to walk you through each step. On the positive side, the final crafts are great! Just make sure you have each number lined up exactly and don’t glue until you are 100% sure it’s the right side or part. If you are going to purchase this book, make sure the child is old enough to understand, have a patient adult to help and set aside enough time to complete it. I suggest maybe one plane a week, but not more.

8-year-old boy really likes this
My 8-year-old son really likes these books. They're simple enough that he can do them by himself, but fairly accurate-looking, so they're identifiable. He's also learning a little history about the planes and other vehicles, especially the military vehicle set.
