Product Description:

If you have 3 minutes, you have time to play Mad Dash - a lively game that challenges players to travel across America in just 3 minutes (timer included!). Winner of a prestigious Parents' Choice Gold Award, the game is intense, addictive, and sharpens geographic skills in a hurry! 2-4 players each unfold a colorful map, then play begins. A sand timer allows for just three minutes to form your state cards into a trail of "neighbors" (states that border each other). The more difficult the route, the higher your score - and there's a big bonus if you can go coast-to-coast. But hurry - time is running out! Each game also comes with State Secrets - a strategy game in which players earn "tricks" by playing the cards of the largest or most populous states. But you must be able to answer questions about cities and natural features of the U.S.A. Here's what Parent's Choice had to say: "As the open-book exam of all time, the game gets you to say and say again the names of states while tracing borders to see if they indeed connect. Zooming fun to play!"

I purchased Mad Dash to supplement our study of the 50 states this year It is quick enough that we can play at the end of our class time Each player gets a map of the US You deal out the cards of the 50 states and try to put them together in order from coast to coast They have to border each other You can go north or south depending on the cards in your hand (Alaska and Hawaii act as Wild Cards) There is a sand timer (3 minutes) but I usually give the kids 5 or 6 minutes It really makes you think about what states join the others
