I found Vol. 2 of this curriculum at a used bookstore and after looking through it was "sold!" I am now buying Volume 1 and the word cards for both Vol. 1 & Vol. 2 because I feel like the cost is worth the time saved in making my own. This is a great resource!

I grew up using these, and feel like they gave me an excellent ground-level understanding of the English language, aided my spelling, and were generally fun to use as a learning tool. I'm excited to now use them with my own children!

It was a lot of work to make all those vocabulary cards years ago. Pre-made cards will save time.

Wanted a good vocabulary program. I like the way you learn multiple words with the same root. Comes highly recommended.

Last year, we just reviewed some Latin and Greek roots, but I needed flashcards with examples, and these flashcards look awesome for my daughter to incorporate in our spelling class. I think this resource can be used as a ELA center. You can make a game from it!

Does this need to be used with the book or can it be used instead?
A shopper on Feb 27, 2019
BEST ANSWER: That is a good question. The book will help, as it provides more detail into the usage of the roots. In addition, the book provides additional referenced words that the cards do not. All points considered, I feel that you can use the cards as a stand alone teaching tool, but doing so will inhibit the scope of the lesson.

Love these cards! My kids (12 & 7) love racing each other to see who can say the meaning first. Even when they're not racing they still like saying all the root words and meanings just to prove to themselves that they know them.

We add 5 new cards each week and they get excited every single time. I show them the root word and they try to figure out what the meaning is based on words they know. We're already part way through Vol. 2.

The only downside to this set of cards is that they don't have the pronunciation on the back of each card like Vol. 2 does. We've had to use Google Translate to listen to the pronunciation for each word. Unfortunately, we had already gone through the entire Vol. 1 and it's been difficult for them to change the way they pronounce some of the words since they had already memorized them one way.

I recommend that the company add the pronunciation to Vol. 1 and I will definitely rebuy so that I can use them with my 5 year old when he's ready.

Love these cards They are generously-sized with easy-to-read fonts They are a good supplement for vocabulary building The only downside to these cards is that they are made of a rather flimsy card stock You will have to laminate them yourself if you want them to last for years

I purchased these for both my children Since we use these cards 3 to 4 times a week I laminated the flash cards We started working on the roots in January and they have memorized all 100 by mid March! We have used the cards as a game to see who knew more roots Next I plan on having them learn the associated words I have already found this useful in science and when reading When the children come across an unknown word we work on discovering the meaning through the root words This has been great!
