Product Description:

Explode the Code in 3D! This royal blue felt wall chart contains 26 pockets. Each pocket contains a colorful, removable stuffed toy that children can play with. The toy is the key word used in the Explode the Code books to learn their respective letters (an apple in the "a" pocket, a bell in the "b" pocket, etc.). Letters are shown in lowercase on the chart. In case the toys don't get back in their pockets, replacement parts are available from the publisher. 16" w x 32" h.

The accompanying booklet is an aid for parents to help get the most out of the Explode the Code wall chart. It explains how to introduce the letters and gives a variety of games to play that will teach and reinforce the names and sounds of letters. The 34 games explained in the book are presented in order of difficulty, beginning with games involving one step and moving on to games with two or more steps. Each of the games can be played with any number of children and in flexible circumstances. Some of the games require extra materials such as note cards, markers, and scissors, but they are all fairly easy to set up and play. Variations of several of the games are given with questions to ask while children are playing the games.

Category Description for Explode the Code:

A phonics program, utilizing workbooks, covering letter sounds and most phonograms. Ample practice using a variety of exercises helps children to both learn and reinforce reading skills. These are particularly well-conceived, with alternate (incorrect) choices containing most probable letter or word confusions. This will assure well-honed phonetic reading skills. There is plenty of practice here, so if you use these in conjunction with another phonics program (for reinforcement), you will want to pick and choose exercises or pages to complete. The "1/2" level books provide practice for the skills learned in the whole-level books Please note that Get Ready for the Code, Get Set for the Code, and Go for the Code no longer include teacher's guide inserts. A much-enhanced teacher's guide is now available separately, that contains teaching information and answers for these three books. Teacher's guides are available for upper levels as well, with each teacher's guide covering two levels.

The new second edition features some small changes from the original, including revised student instructions, some updated content and artwork, and revised stories in Book 7 and 8. There is also a new chart on the inside front cover of the teacher guides which shows the overall lesson routine.

We have used Explode the Code for years with great success. My third child needs more practice with letter sounds and I thought this tactile tool would help. I like how the items correspond to the A, B, and C books she is using.

I use the Explode the Code books with my son. I have a home daycare and will use it to teach phonics lessons. I am a firm believer in phonics because that's how I learned to read.

BEST ANSWER: It's a hat! A very poor one, I had to check the cards that I also ordered to figure it out!
What is the V, Y and X?
A shopper on Feb 22, 2016
BEST ANSWER: V is vase, Y is yarn, and X is fox (they do the last letter in the word for 'X' instead of the first like the rest of the alphabet).

Great product!
This is a very nicely made, durable product. All the figures are soft and and good size- 3-4". There is an activity book that is helpful, which includes games and instructions. It is substantial at 42 pages. Overall a nice visual and tactile piece to enhance learning. Worth the expense!
