Now there's finally an answer to the question "What do I use after Easy Grammar Plus?" The Ultimate Series looks like Daily Grams but functions as a continuation to the instruction and mastery found in Easy Grammar. Just like Daily Grams, the course is divided into 180 daily 10 minute lessons but these are teaching lessons as well as review lessons. Each of these lessons provides the familiar capitalization, punctuation and sentence combining exercises. The remaining two exercises per lesson vary. Content includes parts of speech, phrases/clauses, analogies, sentence fragments/run-ons, prefixes/suffixes/roots, dictionary, spelling, simple/compound/complex sentences. In each daily lesson there is instruction associated with at least one of the exercises. Students are to read and discuss the instruction, complete the exercises, and participate in a discussion of the answers. Consistent with mastery learning, concepts are introduced, expanded and reviewed. The Teacher Book includes reproducible student pages with answers in the back. The Student Book is not reproducible and includes only the student pages. The Test Booklet which is reproducible provides one assessment for every 10 lessons. Pages are perforated with answers for each on the facing page to the assessment. In other words, each test page has answers to the following test on the back. ~ Janice

My son LOVES Easy Grammar. He has a hard time focusing for too long and I found these ideal for him. He actually asked to continue with this series and he is NOT a child who likes schoolwork. It covers everything for Grammar and repeats topics throughout so he can't just learn it and forget it.

I'm using this with my 9th grader who has had no previous formal grammar instruction. He is an avid reader, so all the concepts are in his brain, he just needed to put the formal names to them. This is working well, and I like that it's in small 10-minute lessons. After working together on the first few lessons, my son completes these on his own. I just check his quizzes and tests. My only complaint is some concepts are introduced without any explanation and this can be frustrating.

Doesn't this student book have have the answers in the back just like the previous Daily Grams levels? I don't want to buy the bulky teacher book just for the answer key component! I don't have room for that on my shelves!

BEST ANSWER: There have always been two books for each level of the Easy Grammar Ultimate Series (just like there is for the Daily Grams levels). One is called the Teacher Edition and includes the student pages plus the answers in the back. The other is called the Student Workbook and includes ONLY the student pages. This item (#003083) is the Student Workbook.

BEST ANSWER: The teachers manual has both the answer key and the blank workbook pages. The student workbook only has the blank workbook pages. If you're amazing at grammar & have the time to figure it out & grade it yourself, you could get by with only the student workbook. Personally, I would recommend getting the teachers manual though. :)

Great resource
I've had 3 students use this book so far, and it has been great for all of them. It provides very quick reinforcement and corrections for students with strong skills. Most recently I had a reluctant reader and writer use it, and his writing, punctuation, capitalization, and sentence structure ALL improved dramatically. It is tough to get through all 180 lessons in a year, but I see no problem just continuing it longer than 1 year. Also, one page is manageable to even a reluctant student, and none of the 3 ever had complaints about this book.

To the Point
My son was strapped with his old grammar so much so, that he was still in the 6th grade book just because he couldn't get it all done. Don't get me wrong. It was a great book, but there was just too much work. It was endless. So, the lady that does his assessment recommended this book instead. She agreed that his old one was just too much. This book is to the point with each lesson. He is right on track now!

Easy Grammar Ultimate grade 8 has been a boon for my family Coming into Junior High my daughter had a firm grammatical foundation However I certainly didn't want her forgetting all the grammar that she had already learned Yet many traditional programs were simply too time consuming and expensive for what I considered mostly review Enter Easy Grammar UltimateIn less than 20 minutes a day my daughter reviews the concepts of grammar she has already been exposed to; also the curriculum keeps them fresh in her mind with regular review If you have a learner who struggles with grammar I think this curriculum would be quite helpful as well Topics like capitalization and punctuation are covered thoroughly along with phrases and clauses One thing I really like about this program is that the student is taught prepositions in the first week One needs to memorize (or at least be able to recognize) prepositions Later the student is advised to cross out prepositional phrases; this practice is invaluable to a student when he is learning to identify and label various parts of sentences and parts of speech as prepositional phrases can be confusing when picking apart a sentenceThe lessons are very clear and to the point They are written directly to the student and would not require much teaching as a general rule This is an ideal program for an independent worker The books are not in color nor hardbound; However they are an excellent value in my opinion They binding and cover is more sturdy than the typical paperback book The teacher edition has everything you need for the year's grammar; it includes the student text pages and they are reproducible for home use However considering the cost of photocopying unless one has access to a personal copy machine I found it more economical to simply purchase a student text The answers are included in the back of the teacher's book as are some teaching tips However there are no lesson by lesson instructions solely for the teacherEach daily lesson has 5 parts The first part is capitalization the second is punctuation The third and fourth are grammatical concepts The last part is always sentence combining intended to help students edit their own writing to make it more concise The sample sentences and practice exercises are very interesting and instructive A person can learn some interesting things simply while doing ones grammar exercises Some sentences mention topics like history geography literature and health One thing that is important to realize however is that while Easy Grammar Ultimate will give your student a firm foundation and the tools he might need for excellent composition no composition exercises are included in this book One must give one's student independent writing exercises or use an additional composition curriculum After all to become a proficient writer it requires more than the knowledge of mechanicsit requires practice Easy Grammar Ultimate will definitely give your students a solid grasp of Grammar mechanics
