Are these plastic?
A shopper on Apr 13, 2020
BEST ANSWER: Yes. They're very durable and great manipulatives for learning place value.
Can this set be used for Math u See? Does it matter if they are different colors than the curriculum uses?
A shopper on Jul 29, 2018
BEST ANSWER: It’s not enough pieces for Math U See. I tried to use this in stead of spending the money on the set sold with the curriculum but as the children progress you really need the specific pieces. The color is also important.
Are the pieces in this set interlocking?
User on Aug 16, 2016
BEST ANSWER: No, they are not. The yellow are single units - ones. The green are tens. The blue are hundreds and the red block is 1,000. My husband didn't like that there were only 10 green blocks, but I thought it was perfect to show that if you use up all ten, you have to move onto the hundreds place value. These are small in the hand, not interlocking, but we used them with our singapore math curriculum for Grade 2 and expect to use them again in Grade 3. We also have snap cubes, which are interlocking, and use them more, I'd say.

The size is just right and, as a bonus, the colors match up to their place value on the ones-to-millions flip chart we ordered.

Base 10 Blocks
I love the way the base 10 blocks help students visualize place value. In fact, I need to order more of the green rods the represent the 10's because there are not enough of them in the box. Also, I would recommend putting a dark line in the groves to help students actually see that there are 10 ones in the rod, and 10 tens in the flat. I would highly recommend this product.

I have found this basic set to be all I need for my kiddos. The amount of blocks is plenty. This manipulative was SO useful and needed in helping my 7 y.o. understand regrouping with math problems. Makes math very hands-on and understandable.
