The 4" x 6" Slate Chalkboard helps children learn to write capitals and numbers without reversals. Use Little Chalk Bits to foster finger dexterity and good pencil grip. The smiley face at the top left corner reinforces top-to-bottom, left-to-right directionality. Made of real slate.

The Get Set for School program is the high quality program you would expect from Handwriting Without Tears. This program was designed specifically for the preschool years, and uses the fun methods you would expect for that age. This program employs a unique, multisensory approach which prepares children to write. Children will play, build, sing, color and learn while developing important skills. Readiness & Writing Pre-K Teacher's Guide, now in its 8th edition, provides everything you need to understand the program and developmental stages to effectively teach the lessons. Topically, children learn the alphabet, letter and number recognition and formation, counting, shapes, colors and drawing. The writing focus is on uppercase letters, while lowercase letters are taught toward the end of the year (beginning in Week 30) using the My First Lowercase Book. Complete explanations are given on how to use the suggested manipulatives. Lessons are easy to use and there is a suggested 36 week schedule found in the front of the book. Crayon skills are developed while using special pages for scribbling and coloring. Strokes are practiced on "Mat Man" before ever making a letter. Capital letters and numbers are then practiced using a crayon. There are also extra activity pages which check readiness skills.

I Know My Numbers is a set of 10 small horizontal booklets (14 pgs ea), each centered on a number 1-10 that a student methodically works through as they practice writing and understanding these numbers. They are full of charming black and white illustrations and clear instruction. Little Chalk Bits is a good sized box (about 6.5"x 4"x 2) full of 1 pieces of thin (1cm) white chalk. This will go a long way! Little Sponge Cubes is a set of 100 (50 yellow/50 blue) small cubes (1cm) of kitchen sponge. Just right for tiny fingers to erase with!

This is a wonderful introduction to the world of handwriting for the preschool child. We offer several packages with both the most essential and also with recommended items for the program to fit your budget.

A follow up book to preschool is Kick Start Kindergarten, which reviews upper and lowercase letters, or the Kindergarten program, Letters and Numbers for Me.

I use these little chalkboards for my Little House on the Prairie Classes. They are the perfect size and reminiscent of Laura Ingalls's time in school.

For a preschooler learning to write numbers (sometimes) backwards, this chalkboard creates an easy method to prevent the reversal. The "starting corner" makes the child write left to right.

I think this will really help a young learner with forming letters. The sides of the chalkboard help with making the straight lines needed letter formation.

Great tool
I love this as a tool to help avoid or correct trouble with letter reversals. That smilie in the corner and the nice edge work well. Having students trace with a wet sponge, dry cloth, then chalk is a great way to get three attempts that feel like one. We use it alongside a handwriting without tears book. Some chalk boards do not pick up the chalk nicely but this one does! It is also a nice size for the job.

Good Slate
I purchased one slate for each of my children. It was fun for the younger kids to draw on it with chalk while the oldest one worked on handwriting. The slate was well made and has held up well during this school year.

Great product
This was a great way to get my son to learn how to write his letters the right way. Wet, dry and try was a fun way to do it. Love the smiley face in upper left corner as a reminder.
