Publisher Description:

In Key to Algebra new algebra concepts are explained in simple language, and examples are easy to follow. Word problems relate algebra to familiar situations, helping students understand abstract concepts. Students develop understanding by solving equations and inequalities intuitively before formal solutions are introduced.

Category Description for Key To Math (Gr. 4-12):

The Key To... series is a very self-instructional, unintimidating, programmed learning series. Covering seven basic topics, students can work through these horizontally or vertically. They are ideal for "homework" or a more topical approach to the subject. Presentation is done in a simple, friendly manner, incrementally, and with examples to follow as needed. Workbooks are thin and consumable. Answer keys are recommended. Order by the book or in sets.

We like this series because it encourages children to tackle these subject areas in as much depth as they can, rather than working strictly within the confines of an age-graded math program. Starting in 4th or 5th grade, I purchased a complete set of student workbooks for each child. Book 1 in each topic was put on the school book shelf. When Key to... was assigned, my children were free to work on whatever topic they chose, and they worked as much as they wanted. As soon as Book 1 in any subject was completed, it was replaced by Book 2. My oldest daughter sometimes got so involved that she just kept going!

I have a rising 8th grader who has used Singapore for K-7. She prefers to work independently and I felt the first 4 books of the Algebra Series would be a good summer prep for Algebra 1 to give her a foundation in the fundamentals and practice with the concepts before diving in.

Very straight forward and to the point. Excellent for those students struggling in math!
Nicole B on Mar 8, 2022
My kid needed more practice for each concept and I didn't want to have to scour the internet for practice sheets. These books were just what I was looking for.

This Series is a great tool to reinforce basic algebra concepts. The whole series has been a great addition to our regular math curriculum from grades 6-9. We use them when a concept needs extra practice. These books are great for the practice because it ensures understanding the concept they are struggling with. We have also used it just to break up the monotony. Summer is a great time to use this also. It helps the student remain active in the language of math!

These "Keys to..." books are a great tool to help students get the concepts needed to progress.

This series begins at grade 5 algebraic concepts and advances slowly towards high school levels of algebra. I chose Keys because of positive feedback from other homeschoolers, however this could be a supplement for students struggling in algebra who have missed basic math concepts early on and now cannot grasp Pre-Algebra or Algebra easily. There is a lot of repetition, which my child needs, and we may do every other number until my child begins to struggle with a concept.

I had gotten a recommendation from another home school mom whose son had some learning challenges that this worked well with, so I am giving them a try!

I have used this with my older children and am ordering more for my youngest children. They have loved the progression of skills and the ability to focus on one topic in math at a time.

This is the single best tool for teaching integers, hands down, I never got my stuff out of storage after my last move but it's so good it's worth just paying for a new one!!

Going to try as a supplemental for my son to reinforce skills he's already learned. We use Life of Fred Algebra and I feel he needs more practice and explanation on basic concepts. The reviews for this product seemed positive.

We need more practice on integers, mostly negative numbers. I have used the fractions books in the past and they were excellent.

I chose to purchase the Key To Algebra series because this series has helped solidify my kids with their fractions, decimals and percents. I think this will be a good stepping stone before taking on video text algebra next year.

Solid, step-by-step instruction
We love the Key To series. The Algebra books are very straightforward, methodical approach to the topic. This book is no exception. Small basic steps with plenty of practice! And having a separate answer book makes it easier to grade. Only criticism I would have if it would sometimes be nice to have a little bit more workspace.

Excellent books
I'm using this set for Pre-Algebra for my 7th and 8th graders. It provides a simple, clear, and not-overwhelming introduction to Algebra.
